So I got to thinking about what it is that drives me to buy, trade and try different knives, and aside from other psychological reasons, I can identify that the precision tolerances and quality movement are primary. For me this aspect rises above the knifes cutting ability or performance.
Then I got to thinking about other things in my life that either fill the same role or have been purchased by me to try and fill that role.
So far the only examples I could come up with were guns... especially my old assault rifles that are long gone. I use to take them apart and clean them for fun, and just to feel the pieces slide together smoothly... simply put, they were a joy to own and operate.
Other things have failed to return that sensation, and while not the fault of the product itself, have left me searching.
I tried expensive paintball guns ($700 and up), high performance cars and a sport motorcycle. I enjoy those things for other reasons and for what they are, but they don't fill that need for precision like my knives and guns.
I even tried to get into flashlights and watches because I know a lot of knife guys go down those roads, but after dipping my toe in the water I can't see the relation.
My whole point is to simply ask if anyone knows of another product that fits the requirement for high precision parts and tactile feel like a knife or a gun.
As for guns... I no longer own one. I'm seriously considering getting one. Maybe a shotgun, or a SA handgun. Since I've never owned one, do they fill that role that a knife does in the terms I posted about above?
