This project, as it nears completion, was years in the making and after long hours and late nights... yeah right. It was time to have fun in the shop again. So I quite literally made half a bowie. At least on that axis.. in terms of length.. maybe a 1/8 bowie? I hate throwing away laminated steel even if it was a failure.. so I needed to figure out what to do with a bit where one side delaminated off. And then I found a beautiful piece of naturally featured desert ironwood that already had a rough mortice in it from another failure at some point so I wed the two into this little guy... it's about oh.... 3 inches or so and it's 304 SS and W2. An 1/8" on the spine. No glue... just the bolts and some loctite to keep em from coming loose. So you can take it apart for whatever dang reason you have. I suppose it would be useful since there is some opportunity for foreign substances to find there way into the handle since I left it clean open. Some braintan and deer antler for a thong. Next will be to make a slick little neck sheath for it.

Yeah... I've never seen one either. Probably a good reason... :-)

Just occurred to me looking at the picture that I need to countersink my bolts on the obverse?? side.

In fact, the more that I look at it,the more I love it!!From the handle to the tip of the blade it's truly unique!

Not too often in this game I see something I haven't seen before. That'll make a cool little neck knife.

Thanks folks.. it was fun to do and a nice distraction from a week of tough breaks in the shop. I had to completely re-do a handle on a knife and the damascus warhammer head I'm doing with Serge popped off in testing. I thought the weld was perfect!
