This project, as it nears completion, was years in the making and after long hours and late nights... yeah right. It was time to have fun in the shop again. So I quite literally made half a bowie. At least on that axis.. in terms of length.. maybe a 1/8 bowie? I hate throwing away laminated steel even if it was a failure.. so I needed to figure out what to do with a bit where one side delaminated off. And then I found a beautiful piece of naturally featured desert ironwood that already had a rough mortice in it from another failure at some point so I wed the two into this little guy... it's about oh.... 3 inches or so and it's 304 SS and W2. An 1/8" on the spine. No glue... just the bolts and some loctite to keep em from coming loose. So you can take it apart for whatever dang reason you have. I suppose it would be useful since there is some opportunity for foreign substances to find there way into the handle since I left it clean open. Some braintan and deer antler for a thong. Ladies and gentleman... The Take Down 1/2 bowie:
Next will be to make a slick little neck sheath for it.
