Well ESEE/Rat people, I don't post very often any one place on the forum but had to come here and tell a tale of my TOUGH lil Izula:thumbup:

I'll try to keep this as short as possible---here goes. I own a business where one service I provide is cedar roof cleaning and sealing---tough work and I'm gettin to old for it:) I literally power wash the shakes with low pressure cleaning away all the moss/algae spores etc then return later and apply a preservative to add life to the roof.

At the end of the day (very tired) I'm in the process of loading up and I attach my ladder to the ladder rack of the van. I encounter a very stubborn bungee cord so instead of a fight I simply cut er loose with my Izula...I neck carry my Izula in a Kydex sheath (pretty sure I got it from a forum member here) so it was handy for the task at hand. So where do I leave my Izula?...Thats right, on top of the van!!!

Pretty quiet in the lake area where I was workin cause so many had closed up their cabins for the winter season. I'm headin home, cold tired and feelin the aches and pains startin to set in. I down a few advil so the process of gettin out of the van in a couple of hours is a little more bearable. Cruising along about 60ish and I hear a sickening "clank" "clank" "clank" along the roof line of my van progressing towards the back. I know instantly what it is:o

It is my faithful (cord wrapped @ the time) Izula headin towards an untimely fate---stupid me!!! I literally watch her take a swan dive in my side view mirror and see this sickening "bouncing" down the two lane paved road:o

I stop, get out and run back to find a messed up blade! Chips on the blades edge, top of the spine and a broken tip to boot:mad: Did I say "stupid me" yet?

Well the Izula being the friend she is deserved a shot @ life. A trip to the belt sander to salvage what I could was inevitable. She was pretty bad so I tried to keep the metal removal to a minimum. She may be ugly to some---ok many but shes beautiful to me:) She's still razor sharp, yes a little shorter and maybe doesn't fit as snug in her sheath but I'm never gonna part with her:)

This happened about a month ago and I just found the time to tell my tale. Sorry didn't have before pic's but here are the after photo's. I treated her to new handles (cord wrap was shot) & a redo on her patina!!!

Thanks ESSEE for making a great product:thumbup:

Thanks for listening, I'm better now:)

Looks pretty good for taking a 60 mph flight into asphalt. Should have taken photos of the damage.

Sometimes those knives teach us the most. Like, put it back in the sheath!
Great news is that, it's got an awesome warranty. Use the hell out of that knife. If it ever fails, then send it back.
Now you don't have to worry about scratching it. It's like buying a used car, just get in and go.

paulhilborn, looks like your "E.R." triage worked wonders on it. Good to see it will live to cut another day for you. Wonder if another knife would have taken that kind of tumble & survived as well ? ? ?
Be safe.

Well done!

I appreciate your attitude, and the gumption to work a knife that's a little bit beaten back to its good old useful self. It'll serve you well for years to come I'm sure.

God bless,
Adam

Looks pretty good. You've got the only Izula recurve I've ever seen! Good job Paul.

I was thinking the same thing:) Thought to myself, keep removing metal or live with the slight recurve:thumbup: Recurve won out:D

Great story. It's good to hear someone try to salvage a knife they made a mistake with. Yes you probably could have sent it back, but is shows a certain amount of self reliance and ownership to fix the blade yourself. Well done.

That is the only Izula like it in the world, and you should be proud to own it...

Nice write-up and cool story.

Thanks guys/gals, the knife had a place in my heart before simply because it's such a great all around EDC---now however there's some personal history between me and the knife:thumbup:

A pocket folder never worked well while in my saftey harness---where the strap comes up between my legs it crosses over where a clipped folder would be and was a bit uncomfortable.

The Izula in the kydex neck sheath is ideal---always thought too if I had to cut away from my static line for some reason the neck sheath draw is by far a better option:) So far 10 years later I've never had to use that option:thumbup:

Regardless my Izula will be with me until I pass her along to my boys!!!

Thanks,

Paul

:thumbup:good choice to keep your Izula, a new one is not the same thing as the knife you grow attached to by using it, but hey, all here know that anyway
instead of sending to hard used knife to be replaced, full with scratches, and shorter(to read with Character) better buy other one, i always say
scars are good :D

nice job fixing it up. most people would have just sent it back... im glad you respect your knife like all should
