I see the new tang design being employed on the slicers.
Here is the slicer tang

Here is a standard gen 3 xm18 3.5 knife tang

As you can see the new custom design has the relief cut on the tang and therefore the top part of the tang to touch the lockbar is done differently as far as the angle goes.

For those of you guys who have a custom slicers is your knife tang like mine?

Here is the slicer pic and I do love it with the rock solid lock-up :)

I have an XM-18 3.5" with a standard (Spanto) blade grind, and the tang is the same as yours, so it may not be specific to the Slicer grind.

It is not specific to a particular grind. All of the 3.5" have been shipping like that since last summer.

Hi Ken,
Nice to see you around! :)
Cheers to you with the liquid you like :)

Oh, and by the way, I think you need an Orange G-10 handle for that Slicer.

I am glad someone asked this question, as I have the same thing going on with mine and am wondering what the benefit of it is?
I am glad to see it on one of the customs.
I was going to message you Rob to ask if it were normal, as it appears sonly around 10% of the blade actually comes in contact with the lock-bar when open, and at an angle that appears not completely flush with the lock-bar?

I haven't had any mishaps, and it feels solid, and figured there was some mechanical reason for it, and look forward to more info. on the new design.

Thanks for the link Ken. No wonder it was recognized - it it excellent bourbon :)

No questions it is as solid as it gets :)
I had my questions answered by Rick. I hope Rick or Rob will chime in here :)

Although new tang design seems to be as solid as the old one I still feel like the old one is tougher.
See how with the new design it is only a part of the lock bar is engaged:

vs. the whole lock bar is engaged in a lock up here on my older xm

So to me for a custom slicer either would work, but for the hard use production tanto the old design is my preferred choice :)
