The way of the search is more about the journey than finding any one particular knife. It about a motivating factor, a spark that leads us to the discovery of Tiferet. I found a few sparks today.

I found them at an old business that I have passed by hundreds of times. Its an old knife sharpening business in a very old building. I just decided to stop and turns out they had boxes of old knives all piled up on one another. I dug through the boxes and found these. The guys were very interesting and I learned a few things. One of the old guys was carrying 11 knives...lol

Lets hear about that interesting search you went on, where it led you and what you found.

Very nice find there. Whenever I find older knives around here, they're almost always used up. Yet they still want "Like new" prices for them.

That's a great find. Sorry to say I don't have any stories to share.

Thanks guys for the comments
These are "well used". Something ran over the Keen Kutter but it works fine. It is torqued a little and the bone scale is broken. But, I wanted one since a few peach seed examples were posted. The bone is quite beautiful on one side and the other is solid. I will do some epoxy work on it cause that shield is awesome. The liners are scored very finely on both sides. There is a name for it..it will come to me. The bolsters are beautiful.
The Kent has half stops and was made in New York. I like its Barlow lineage. The main blade is swedged. The bone needs to be cleaned up. Never heard of Kent but it will be fun finding out about it.
The Case is missing a scale and other is broken but it is a fine example of a knife other than that. I will rescale it with some fine wood. I've always wanted to do that ...now I can.
All for $12 bucks for three...find em if you can box.

Very cool. Your experience sounds like several dreams I've had, that is, wandering into a place with lots of great vintage knives.

I like that Keen Kutter, one of their HQs was just a few miles down the road...
Storytime!
My family went to a semi-fancy restaurant that was modeled after an 1800s settlement (Ms. Patty's, if you know it) and there was a small little antique shop on the edge of the complex. While we were waiting to be seated (3-4.5 hr wait) we went in to browse. I was immediately drawn to the counter that had the knives on it, and within seconds I was beroozing tacticool knives of all sorts, and for some reason, the little box of $5 knives called out to me. I started rooting through it, and found a mint condition Camillus one blade barlow and Camillus model 26 folding hunter. Walked out with both. Total cost: appx. $15 after tax. Value of the knives together: anywhere from $50 to $100

comoha...keep trying cause I wanna hear your dream story:D

Neeman...may our work benefit all beings Brother

thatotherguy....great story!! I saw a Camillus but it was too far gone. Its amazing the varied places these old beauties are waiting to be discovered.

Thanks brother!
I went back there not too long ago and found a mint Camillus dura- work TL-29 in the same bin, passed it up, and the next day realized that I had never EVER seen another one in my Camillus research, and I had seen the "complete line" of dura-work knives multiple times. :foot:

Yea ....I've passed on a few I wish I hadn't...matter of fact..one yesterday that I may just have to cruise back over for it in a bit. It was in pretty good shape as I remember but I had my "three for 12" so I passed on it.

I know the feeling.Unfortunately there's no knife shops near me, have to drive down to Sewage Disposal Road (real road name, appx.45 miles south of me) to go to the closest knife- only shop. Sigh.

What I hate is when you ask about knives and the proprieter tells you that "___" went through them and get the nice ones. Don't understand I'm more than willing to look at what's left just in case.

Another lady had me coming back to her "yard sale" four or five weeks in a row because she'd "find that box of knives and let you look at it." Oh, well.

thatotherguy....I just know KY has some cool old places to search...keep the search

WA Martin...four or five weeks in a row and no knives...she had an ulterior motive my man...;)

Keep the stories coming

There are plenty of cool old places to search, just no modern, still-getting-stocked-by-the-manufacturers shops anymore. My local Case dealer (master dealer) was a hardware store (jackknife would have loved to go) with their Case display beside the cash register, closed a few months ago. My hypocrite townspeople started complaining and whining "why did they have to close? WHY?!?!" when they had never set a foot in there all their lives, meanwhile I bought every single one of my Case knives from them.
Anyway, sorry for that.
There are some good stories in here, makes me want to go to a couple of antique stores today.

I hear you my friend...seems times are changing faster n' faster. We still have such a hardware store named Breeds...but another one close to me has sadly just closed. A good trip to an antique store always lifts my spirits.

Ours was named Homefolks, was in business about 65 years, then we got a lowes.
I hate multibillion dollar a year businesses. The casheirs at lowes are all jerks, the one (yeah, one) at homefolks was callin' me by name and striking up conversations.
Sigh... I miss local businesses being the norm.

OK, just got back from a decently fruitful search. We were going through a shed that was owned by a friend, he sold it, and the new owners wanted us to come over and clean it out. While in there, I saw a glisten of steel in one of the boxes, and stopped to look at what I'd found.
Turned out I'd found a couple old knives! Woohoo!
They were a little rusty, patina'd, and used, but still some nice old pieces for free. I had found a 1976 Schrade Imperial demo knife, a 90s Uncle Henry small stockman, and a Case CV redbone trapper.
Woohoo!

Sorry can't post pix, Don't have camera, and can't get em off my phone for some reason which is beyond me. It sounds like an excuse, not kidding though. Apparently my phone acts as a USB storage device and stores all the phone's data on an SD card, which seems to be nonstandard in my case, the reader won't read it.
