I went to to the show this year primarily to get a Les George Talos but Les got slammed by the early birds and only had a few knives left by the time I got there. Fortunately I was able to get a mk3 but no Talos.
Well I decided I was going to check all the tables and see if I could find something from a small unknown maker. I am now super happy to say that I was lucky enough to find Dead Reckon knives! I’ve waited to make this post till I spent some time with it in my hand and used it. I’m now confident enough to know it performs flawlessly!
When I first stopped to check them out I was certain it was just going to be another designer getting their knives made for them overseas. I was shocked to find out not only are these knives made in the good ole USA but that it was nearly entirely in house production. I probably asked 3 times cause it was so hard to believe the knife they are producing at this price point.
It’s a ti integral frame with an innovative patent pending pivot and button lock system that locks up like a vault and has no blade play even with the pivot screw out. It has sealed bearings, milled clip and a magnacut blade for only $435. The quality and tolerances are up there with crk, Hinderer and even koenig. I couldn’t believe the price point for such a high end USA made integral ti folder.
The ergos on this knife are excellent. It has a very small flipper tab that works flawlessly. My personal favorite is the opening hole on the blade that grabs the meat of the thumb and is angled in the exact direction for opening. There’s no way to not have the blade deploy when opening. The handle really locks the hand in place and is very comfortable. The clip is excellent and disappears in the hand completely. It carries great in the pocket. Really love both of the blade shapes. I went with what they call the wharncleaver. I also like the minimal branding. The A with the circle on the show side is their logo and that’s it.
What I found most impressive of all is that they really knocked it out of the park on their first attempt. They have only been opened for business for 8 mos but have been doing research for the last 3 yrs and it really shows. They’re also veteran owned and really friendly and cool guys excited because they know they have an excellent product.
They had an excellent show this weekend. There was a crowd in front of their table all weekend and they sold over 50 knives which is incredible for just having one little table amongst hundreds.
You all know how I’m quite the shill for the things I love, well this may be the first your hearing of them but it won’t be the last!
They have a website you can check out. The model is called the ridgeback. They actually have some still available on their website. I can assure you, you will be as impressed as I.
