I was hunting yesterday (farmer depradation permits so I could hunt during the summer) on a Christmas Tree farm with a friend to take care of a very rampant deer problem outside of Baltimore. It was pretty hot so we hunted in shorts/flip flops and cut off shirts. No scent lock this time....

Late in the day we see deer but they are too far away to take a whack at. Then I see this little fox working its way through the smaller christmas tree's out in front of me. The little guy is slowing down and starting to stalk. Next thing I know a bunch of small birds BURST out from under one of the trees and the little fox lunges up and nails one out of the air. He took it to the ground...shook it a bit and just kinda stood there and had this immensley proud look on his face. I have never seen that yet in the wild. We are allowed to take foxes on the property but I wasnt about to take him as I felt we shared the same goal that day. Seen some other cool stuff but figured i'd share that an some pictures overlooking where we are culling the herd.

I dont have any pictures of the fox as it was later in the afternoon and I was on edge for when the big brown critters came out. The pics make the buildings look ALOT closer than they are, the field dips over the horizon and there's alot more ground once you start walking it. The stand gives a deceptivley small look to the whole field. There is a large piece of woods behind the stand and of course no houses.

I know its a bit early still for regular hunting seasons but I take my chances to get out an hunt as I can and I dont mind helping a farmer out. I havent taken anything yet but my friend has. The farmer also allows for hunting during regular seasons.

Looks fun :D Where are the pictures of the fox!?

Allegheny County's Wildlife Management Unit has a doe season that starts a month ahead of the regular season because of the excessive deer. There are what seems to be unlimited doe tags available too  Your area looks like some good hunting ground though!

P.S. I would have shot the ground hog

Lol I added to the post it was later in the afternoon and I put the camera in the bag cuz I didnt want to juggle a bunch of stuff preparing for a shot. I took those when I got in the stand around 5. Doesnt even get dark until bout 9 so its a bit of a wait but we had a storm moving in so I figured they might move early. We dont have unlimited tags lol but we have a good number.

I have only hunted here twice but as long as I am invited to hunt I'll keep going. The woods that surround that field are large enough to support a good number of deer and I've seen alot of sign. When you drive out and get into the neighborhood areas just outside of there and see deer in the lawns...you know theres a problem.

Excellent:cool:

I'm sure the farmer appreciates your help.

I love the show you can see sitting in a stand all day.

Thanks for sharing

Nice to have someone that'll let you hunt, free meat, well kinda free, good quiet time and cheap meat :D
