I've always (well, for a long time) understood that the three-dot 110 was made in 1980 only and was the last 440C 110 made.

Has the information or at least the common opinion on this changed?

I see Joe's latest sticky on 110s doesn't address that, although I thought previous ones did.

It is still the last 440C blade 110. Some fill that they could have been made in the early part of 81. The 4 dots are all 425 as far as we have been able to find out. HL

I think the move to the new 200,000 square foot plant with all that brand new blanking equipment caused to the move over to 425M because of blanking issues with 440C and the new equipment.

Seems like that move into the new plant was around mid 1981.

According to DM, the new plant had the big Nitrogen tank, for the cyro. From what anybody can find out, the three dots where done that way. It is rummored that he started heat treating two dot blades, just did not cyro treat them! HL

Very interesting. I like the 440C......even better with Bos.

Thanks to all.

In the June 2009 newsletter Joe H. lists the 110 history taking it up to 1980 thus ending the 2 dots . Yet, making no mention of the 3 dots . So, the 3 dots had to have begun in mid 1980 and ran thru 1981 sometime . I think Flat stated a big piece to this puzzle as Buck used up the remaining 440C supply in order to go to 425 and the 4 dots sometime in their new plant in late 1981 or early 1982 (George Stenzel) . Hope this helps . DM

Just went through the safe - coulda sworn I had a 3-dot but no joy. Now the hunt is on for one. Blast you guys...... BBJW

I have a 3 dot brand new in the box,one thing the 3 dots have is a much different looking nail nick than any other 110 i've seen, kinda rouned edgeinside the nail nick, dunno if anyine knows what i mean by that but anyway..

Don't know.....nail nick on mine looks about the same length, significantly wider and at a bit different angle on the blade than the modern ones.

The blade is different from the modern blades in several ways, but I'm not sure that I understand your "kinda rouned edgeinside" comment.

There's at least one other post in this thread that i have no idea what they are saying. A dropped word here, a misspelling there and who can figure it out? Not me anyway..
