So i turned 21 last year and wanted to get my BFG (Big Something Gun) i already have the shooting licence(not buying but my father has it), and i was thinking in getting some good large framed revolver to do some shooting in IHMSA (metallic silhouette) and was seeing taurus. All of then in 8 3/8, and chambered in .44 exeptionis the 454 that takes 454 casull and your usual .44 Mag so I could shoot .44 for cheaper ammo.

The contenders

Model 44 Capacity 6 weight 57 oz

Raging Bull model 444 Capacity 6 weight 63 oz

Unless you just want a double action, the Super Blackhawks are fine guns. Trailbum is right.

(I just didn't want to see a mod move your thread)

I wanted to keepit becker cause i know you guys want tought has nails in everyform...

Yeah i like double action, it gives a better feel on the kickback and messes your aim. The harder to shot the beter

Double action, then Super Redhawk. Taurus is a bit hit and miss on quality and sub par on finish work. Comparing Taurus to Ruger is no comparison that's like a Kia vs Hummer.

Yeah but very probably i will be using hot loads and the double latch on the taurus has better results on wear and tear than the rugger, also taurus has a better aim at 200 yards (rams)...

EDIT: Maximum weight of 4,5 Lbs for the whole gun unloaded

If you are going to be shooting hot loads the only way to go is Ruger. I don't know what the double latch on the Taurus is, but there is a reason that there are Ruger only loads and not Taurus only loads. The Ruger is going to be a way better built gun, bar none. Also, shooting any animal at 200yards with a handgun is ridiculous for anyone but an expert marksman and even then its really pushing the limits of even the 454. If you want to shoot longer distances than maybe 75-100 yards at animals get a rifle.

shiny.

the model 629 mountain gun is a nice thing.

44 magnum 180s are "ow ow ow", 240s are mellow in comparison :)

but 44 special? niceeeeeee. makes with the big holes but mellow mellow

The double latch is on the titanium version to help keep it from flying apart on hot loads. It is also a royal pain to fiddle with. I take the Taurus ultralight snubby when long hiking in bear town, Kicks like a mule too. I shoot it enough to be adequate with it other than that no thanks. Day hikes I take the Blackhawk. Single action is fun.
200yards?? Sure as long as my pistol has an 18" barrel I guess.

I believe he is talking about steel rams as in International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association (IHMSA) competition.

That makes way more sense, especially after rereading the op. Targets at 200 sounds like a fun challenge. I would still recommend a Ruger over the Taurus overall I and for hot loads. S&W if normal loads were to be used.

Sage advice here... I concur:thumbup:

The S&W 500 mag will handle hot loads... But really... With 500.... How much more do you need in a handgun..

Go for the Super Redhawk 7.5 BBL its a sweet chunk of steel and as previously mentioned in loading data there are max loads that state Ruger only because they are built like tanks. Just mounted a 2-6 variable power scope on mine. Cooked up a real nice shooting load with Hornady 240gr XTPs. Should be the ticket for anything under 75 yards or so with my skills.

The rules of International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association
(my club range)http://www.ramclube.com.br/

Its 10 chikens size at 50 meters (54,68 yards)
10 small boars at 100 meters (109,36 yards)
10 turkeys at 150 meters (164.04 yards)
10 rams at 200 meters (218.72 yards)

for a total of 40 points you have 10 shots at each range.

I usualy do 28-33.

The best ammo for this is the .30 puma special (a Brazilian wildcat) that's basicaly a .223 re profiled shot on a contender single shot...

But i wanted to do something different for long ranges, and used a friend model 44 and had really good results, that's why i'm on the taurus side of things, ruger don't have good aim for me. And i shoot no scope, and ruger iron sights is has bad has it can be.

EDIT: Added the yard conversion
