The tip of my Opinel...

Has anyone else noticed this? The edge (last 1/8") at the tip of my Opinel seems to avoid holding an edge. I'm wondering if it got overheated during some stage of manufacture, because there is so little material at the tip.

Eliminating this soft metal will give me an excuse to drop the tip, which is something I want to do anyway.

The very tip of the blade contacts the handle every time it is closed. There is no stop pin and is normal of the design. Mine does the same thing, all six of them, even after repeated sharpenings.

Thanks for your reply. The thing is, I was not closing the blade. I sharpened on sand paper, went to strop on card board. Edge was nice and polished except for the tip, no matter how many times I sharpenened it. After stropping it would look toothy at the last 1/8" at the tip.
