got a Mikrotech mini socom for my birthday a month ago and one thing I noticed about it is the tip of the blade is so pointed it's needle like, it is actually too pointed. I am afraid if I carry it or use it the tip will break off easy. Anyone else had a knife like this before? and what suggestions do you have with fixing this? I am not much of a knife sharpener, I use spydies 204 sharpmaker to sharpen knives since it does good for us with no sharpening skills.

Keep the tip!

pointy tips can be very useful, and make a lot of chores (penetrating more durable materials, woodwork, etc.) way easier. If you are inclined to do prying things and such with the tip (so that the tip would break), then you really need a new knife.

My suggestion would be to not worry and see what happens. Don't use the tip for prying at all. If the tip breaks, a $6 stone from Wal-Mart and maybe half an hour of a bit of grinding and you can re-establish a "blunter" tip. Then touch it up on your sharpmaker and you're good to go.

This tip isn't strong enough for penetrating anything but maybe paper i am afraid, I can't explain just how "pointy" it is but it's unreal very shallow and thin. Ill try to get it to show up in a pic so you can see.

dont chip ice w/a pointy knife (ie spydie police)or ya will mess the tip up, dont ask me how i know this, but i do, i do.............
