The Tom Brown Tracker and the Predator WSK

I tried using the "search" and it didn't seem to be working for some reason, so I decided to start a new thread.

Well, I've been looking around for a fixed blade that I would use when I go into the bush as a multi-use all around knife.
I am fairly new to the knife industry, and it wasn't until recently that I discovered the Predator WSK by RED Scorpion Six Blades.
Obviously, the first thing I noticed was the extreme similarities between the Predator and the Tom Brown Tracker.
In the May issue of Tactical Knives magazine, they had a review of the Tracker #2, which is essentially just a smaller version of the original. They said that the concept of the Tracker knife was originally designed by Tom Brown as the ultimate outdoor fixed blade, and that all other knives with similar designs were knock-offs.
However, it seems that the Predator WSK has quite a strong following.

So basically, what's the deal with all the similarities between the two knives, and between the two which one is better?

Thanks,
Eric

Firstly, just because one design comes out after another does not make it inferior to the "original". The Tracker knife you can buy from TOPS is also not the "original" Tracker knife, but a knock off of the much more desirable BECK version. The BECK version can be seen in the feature length commercial titled "The Hunted". I bought the TOPS version, and found that as soon as I bought a Swamp Rat knife works Camp Tramp, the Tracker knife fit very well in a storage bag, and the Camp Tramp did everything I wanted the Tracker to do, but better. It also is sheeple friendly. I don't know if WSK's like the Tracker existed before Mr. Browns, But I hear more positive things about other manufacturers versions.

Howdy Eric,
The search function here takes a bit of getting used to. Google uses an AND operator. As in: find entries with both "first term" and "second term" The Forums function uses an OR operator, as in find posts with "first term" OR "second term" OR "third term". This means you get a lot of hits really fast. And the more words you use in the search, the more hits you get. But if you get too many hits, it overloads the function and you get a white screen. So you need to limit your searches. Here are some tips:
Use the 'advanced search', it gives you more control
Start with single words
Don't use words like blade, knife, or steel.
limit your searches to a single forum until you get a feel for how many hits your search gets.
Search titles only first. If you don't get enough hits, then you can try searching the entire posts.

So to apply these tips to this search, do this:
Click the search button.
On the pop-up, click "advanced search". You get a whole big screen.
Enter "predator" no quotes.
select "Titles only"
Select "all forums"
Clear the "search subforums" box.

Click "search now"

You will find a fair number of posts.

Repeat using the word "Tracker"

Happy Reading.

I know a few people here own many versions of that WSK.

I'm calling them: Could you make a comparative review of them all please?

Your forum name had me confused then, I read it as Mrs killz and thought you were a dangerous women called Eric !!!!

Regarding your question I am sure you don't want a hundred people telling you to give the Trackers a miss and get a real use, no gimmik knife which is most likely what will happen here !!!
So all I will say on the subject is that for a hard use knife I would want one in 1095 steel as used by TOPS and not 440C as used on the Predator !!!!

I also have had both of these knives and enjoyed many hours battering the hell out of them, the TOPS version needs some after market sharpening but still was not a great performer. The predator was a joy to use, cuts great and chopped very deep, good fun to build a shelter with. After the romance was over with them i sold them on ebay and have settled with a Fallkniven A2.

If you want one of the best wsk type knives out there and excellent customer service to boot then in my opinion you can't go wrong with maker Mark Terrell. Also look at his USK which is the Urban Survival Knife.

Ill second the mark terrell WSK.

Great steel, D2 quarter inch thick at spine. His grind is awesome making this blade quite a chopper. The straight edge section is razor sharp for fine work. Great craftmanship.

I wouldn't want one. Tommy Lee Jones outdid it with a quickly knapped hunk of Coke bottle (or whatever it was)

:D

I remember when I watched the movie, how Tommy's character didn't like guns- so he used a knife instead. And when he was getting slashed to ribbons, and had that knife shoved through his arm, I bet he was thinking, "Man, I'm sure glad I don't have a gun now!" :barf:

Ok! somebody pleeeese tell me! They both clame to the producers of the movie knife from "The Hunted". Who's knife was used inthe film. Tops or the red scorpions Predator.

Red Scorpion Six has never claimed to make the movie knife. The Tracker is based on the knife used in the movie. David Beck is the original maker of that knife.

This is the real one...

Dave Beck
The Predator WSK is directly inspired from the craftsmanship of Dave Beck. Dave’s WSK knife has truly made an impact upon the Wilderness community as well as the Military. You may have recognized it from its appearance in the movie "The Hunted". We were inspired to create something to bring his design to the masses. All of Beck's designs were custom made and out of price ranges of most people who actually need this type of knife. Currently, the Beck WSK sells anywhere from $1500-$3500. We have produced a similar design after Mr. Beck released his design to public domain. Since he no longer produces the knife, Mr. Beck did this to preserve his influence of design in the knife making market.

Can you purchase the Red Scorpion WSK at any online knife shops other than the Red Scorpion website?

Also, does the Red Scorpion come with a sheath?

Wow, took some digging but found the link.

No sheath with the WSK, but you can choose between D2 and S30V, then plenty of handle & blade finish options. You have my attention!
