I got a chance to play with my JK Knives The Tool (designed by mykel m) some today. I didn't get a picture with it at work, but below are some pictures of the knife, sheath, and striker on the end of the tang.

I spent an hour or so working on my property today. I almost always carry a fixed blade and a pocket knife when I do so (and sometimes an axe or machette). The Tool was used to cut some small branches off of a small dead tree that I hauled away after cutting it up. It cut through the branches with ease - a job normally left for my BK7. The Tool was obviously smaller and lighter than the BK7, but it did the job nonetheless. When I got back to the house, it still cut paper as well as it did before.

I would have liked to have taken pictures while working, but Wife has the good camera in Texas and the one she left me is pretty crappy in the absence of good lighting (rainy season here, and it was drizzling on and off this morning). So all I have for now are pictures taken this afternoon when the clouds rolled away.

The other side of the knife from the picture that John has in the "Almost ready to ship" thread. This side is much more red than the other, giving the knife some interesting character. I like it:

The striker on the end of the tang:

The knife in the heavy duty and very nice sheath that John made (note the loop for the fire starter, John also included a small piece of ironwood to use as a top for a fire starter to match the knife - a project for this winter, I imagine). 'Scuse the shadows:

I love this knife. Solid and easy to use. I can tell you now that this will be my go-to fixed blade when I'm doing actual work. It is a fine tool and an excellent job by John. I am very pleased with it. :)

I absolutely love that blade shape and the handle looks really comfy. We really need to see more of this.

I'll try to get some more pictures, but until Wife gets back with the Nikon I've got to catch the light right. And forget indoor pics. :( But I'll get some more pics with some better detail when she gets back end of the week.

The handle IS comfy. Quite honestly, the knife felt better in my hands than does the BK7 (or BK2 or BK12). Not nearly as much mass in the tool, but it makes up for it in sheer cutting power and comfort while doing so. I was surprised, to be quite frank, as I expected to have to work harder with it than with the larger more massive implements. Not the case. The design does a lot of the work for you and the comfort makes it feel easier as well.

I knew that I'd like it, but I honestly expected it to my "ride along" knife - the one I throw in my UTV's glovebox, or on my belt, when Wife, dogs, and I go riding for the day. I didn't expect it to become my go-to fixed blade for daily chores. I even left it on my belt when I went to the grocery store today. I got a chance to show it off. Lots of bright eyes and "Ohhhh!" comments. People aren't afraid of knives in this part of the world. Everyone carries one and sheath knives are not at all uncommon. I like that. :)

Side note: Wife was telling me about showing off her Doug Ritter mini-grip to her friends the other day and how all the ladies were pulling knives out of their purses and talking about them. THAT is the kind of community this is. ;)

Now I'm even more excited about my custom project with John for later this year.

Very nice!!

A great knife and a great design.

I believe that John's brother is making the sheaths now though.

That`s correct, for about the last four months. I still do the one offs, and Hawk sheaths.

Congrats on a great knife, and the story. I like the attitude in your community, this country needs more of that. I often wear a fixed blade on my belt while walking my dog in the woods, near a lake where we like to go. I would not, however, wear it in the grocery stores here in this part of NJ--someone would likely complain .
