Yangdu wrote me this AM and said the traditional bolsters are coming.

I'd written her about them.
We'll have to wait and see, of course.

Many of us here have thought Yangdu would be a different business personality than was Bill. She is. I think she's pretty neat, and if this happens, all you non habaki bolster crowd should throw flowers!!! IF Ferrous was here I'd expect a Ballad for the bolster. (to the tune of "When Johnny Comes Marching Home"???)

Of course, the proof will be in the Kamis hands. But I hope this happens for the majority of the HI crowd that has wanted this for so long.

I've seen some pretty nice stuff coming thru since Yangdu has been steering the ship already.

Also over the past year or so we've been seeing more traditional bolsters, and designs show up. That last special of YCS knives was an excellent idea! Also some interesting one of a kinds, especially some of the recent Villagers. The 15" Ganga Ram is probably one of my favorite new models.

damn. does this mean i need to entirely upgrade my collection?

every time i think i'm out, they pull me right back in!

Yup...and now there are younger and faster sharks in the tank.

Not to mention the rest who have only gotten older, wiser and more treacherous.

 :D

Not to mention the rest OF US who have only gotten older, wiser and more treacherous. Get it right, young man.

Yawn. Like any pre courtship display, or territorial dispute, the Old Bulls now go into posturing and real and imagined threats...

We know what's coming. We've seen the water run red before. It's not enough to shark the blades- they must dance about it beforehand!

You are not a shark . . . You don't want to be a shark
You are a guppy . . . Guppys want lots & lots & lots of little tiny bent blades
You are not a shark . . . There's no such things as sharks

Excellent ! ! !

Good idea! I think I just might go out back and build a big bonfire and dance around it!

I think Yandu is a good businesswoman, and knows how to "man" the helm from Reno. ;) I personally feel that the traditional bolsters (hopefully with a better positioned cho) will be a plus for H.I. in the long run.

Agreed that she's been putting a lot of nice specials up for grabs lately...

More traditional bolsters should help with the problem of loose scabbards as the sarkis won't be able to take shortcuts with fitting them to the khukuris.

Bob

Bigbob, I don't understand that part about bolster and sheath fit. I looked some khuks over this morning. The traditional bolsters end in a wedge- that falls into the sheath mouth with a positive stop. That seems easier than the Habaki bolster, which rests not as certainly on the edge of the sheath opening.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Ad Astra again.

Love your graphics AD!

made me laugh! :D

Alas! More traditional Khukuris!

Just when I thought I had achieved buying discipline! :grumpy:

Tom

ps After all this about "martial" Khukuris, what would a "marital" khukuri be like?

Well, there you have it. HI is responsive, and listens to the customer base and reacts accordingly.

Other places, well, "they ain't Burger King."

More like: "My authentic way or the highway."

Props to Yangdu and the kamis!
