The "trio" are my favorite...

Around the time both before and after a divorce, I ordered a large and small Sebenza and an Umfaan.
These were not ordered all at once, of course. It took maybe 15 months.
Anyway, the Sebenzas were the plain models, and the Umfaan had the zig-zag pattern of that year (1999?).
Things were disappearing from my house and I had an identity crisis well underway.
I decided I would keep the trio no matter what.
I called Anne Reeve and discussed engraving. I sent all three in and had my full name engraved on all of them. I also had the scale that had the zig-zag pattern on the Umfaan removed and replaced with a plain one.
The vision of the net effect was matching knives, and personalized.
When they came back (maybe 10 days) I was amazed that the engraving font had been adjusted in proportion to each knife.
They are beautiful and very special.
They represent more than steel and will surely be handed down with a story about an episode in my life.
They just cannot be replaced and they are my favorites.

Bill,
Great story. I'm sorry to hear about your poersonal problems and I hope things are going well for you now. I'm also glad that you were able to retain those special knives. There's just something about CRK knives that make them extra special.

Best Wishes,
Mitch

Mitch,
I'm fine. It was the best thing that has happened to me, but thanks for the concern.
I will always give special attention to someone going through a divorce. It's far worse than a splinter in the eye.

About photos. I've been asked to send them before and never got around to it.
First I'll try a scan. If that does not work I'll find a friend with a digital camera.
In any event, I'll post images later.

Great post, Bill!

I think the zig-zag was the 1998 pattern. I am sure someone around here knows for sure.

How much was a scale replacement?

Thanks!

Hi Clay.
I think Reeve switched the zig-zag scale for $10 or $20.
The full cost of engraving all three knives, replacing the Umfaan scale and adding those cool clip hole fillers was maybe $100. A ten day turnaround and a understanding Anne Reeve made the whole episode positive.

I'll try to get photos posted this week.
Later, Bill

Hi Bill, glad to see you kept the Zulu trio.

I have a plain small and large, and my plain
Umfaan will be here tomorrow.

If you get another, I would recommend a small wood inlay. Mine is due in August.

I received a Proj I yesterday with a birth date the same as mine.

I wonder if I win something?

I almost forgot the zig zag was 1998/1999, the arrow was 1999/2000
