the "U" button on my laptop stopped working

any way to fix that???

Ren

So you press the U button and nothing happens? Does it feel sticky or hard to press?

Most likely there is something physically preventing the key from working. Get a can of compressed air, flip the laptop on its side and clear all the crumbs out. If that doesn't do it...you may have to actually take the keyboard off and clean it.

You could also buy a replacement keyboard. I grab them new or refurbished on the bay for $10-20.

Just use V; it's close enough. You can claim that you are an "artist."

Take two screwdrivers (or knives) and pry the key out. Clean out the cat fur or whatever is under it and pop it back on. It's easy.

Some laptops , keys , are a genuine PITA to put back on once you have them off.
Be careful when you take it off , if you do that is , try to see how it came off so you'llhave an idea how it clips back on.

sometimes you have to remove the back of the keyboard and clean the contact buttons. the keyboard i'm using now had a key stick so i tried popping off the key. it didnt fix the problem but cleaning the button did. be careful if you take the keyboard apart and support the face to keep the buttons from being pushed. it will make putting the board back together difficult. wipe the buttons with a clean soft cloth with a little rubbing alcahol. odd lots is a good source sometimes for cheap keyboards.

Pry the key off with a screwdriver, as Cougar said.

Be careful not to lose the spring.

Usae a q-tip soaked in alcohol (95% is better than 70%)
to scrub off the "sticky stuff".

Sticky keyboard, huh? Hmmmmmmm.... wonder how that happened.;):D

Naw, Mongo, that ain't the question. The real question is how it only happened to one key?

:D

Try this first: turn the laptop upsidedown and burp it in the area of the U like you would a baby.
