I should have posted this in Gadgets & Gear in the first place (instead of in the "Survival" forum). Please excuse the duplicate post.

Check out the Thommen Revue Airspeed Altimeter Watch a mechanical watch and altimeter--no batteries required. Can you believe my wife said I could not have one for my birthday?

That's a very nice looking watch indeed :)

Tell her I said it's ok, it's a good deal...what if you need to see how high up you are and there's no batteries at hand.....see if that helps, then duck and cover  (this from a man trying to convince his better half about a Suunto watch---I need to know temp, and direction, and altitude here at sea level NJ, of course!!)

Thanks for posting that link. Revue Thommen stuff gets overlooked but they have a pretty interesting line of products.

Me and a bunch of other members of a hiking forum I grequent recently got THESE for less than $50 on sale at Gart Sports. No compass, but the altimeter is damne accurate. In the cascades I use an altimeter more than a compass anyway.

That is one extremely cool looking watch! However, if it uses the same technology as the regular Thommen units, the aneroid capsule must be extremely tiny. The precision of the craftsmanship would have to be incredible in order for it to produce accurate readings. Anyone read any tests of it?

I'll see if I can find it and post it. I haven't seen any tests, nor do I know how rugged the watch is.
