I want my long time quest to finally end. What is your top favorite ever, for bringing even older blades to the highest shine possible?
I am trying to decide between Renaissance and Flitz but want to hear what others have found to be extra fantastic.

Renaissancwe wax is not a polish-it's wax. Neutral paste shoe polish works better, and is cheaper.
I prefer Simichrome polish.

Flitz and Simichrome are both good, but personally I prefer one called
"MAAS" Metal Polishing Cream. It's a superstrong anti-tarnish corrosion inhibitor too.

Flitz, Brasso, and the like aren't ideal for hard steel. For anything bigger than small stains or discolorations you will need a proper cutting compound or metal polish.

Autosol is quick and gives a really bright finish. Farecla G3 gives a slightly deeper finish, but cuts slower.

Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish for me.

this stuff is ridiculous!!! i used to own a mobile auto detailing service and this stuff would make the worst, nastiest, gnarliest looking chrome look better than new.

i started using it on knives and haven't found anything better.

Thanks - I'll try that on my old straight razors. I've used Maas and it works OK. I've used a mix of ammonia and red rouge and works pretty much like Maas - I think that's the basic formula for several polishes.

All the Jewellers Rouge I've used was too slow for anything but a final polish.
Maybe I just don't have the good stuff.

I've been happy with semichrome for MANY years and Mothers i've had for quite a while as well. I would consider them quite close in effectiveness.

I don't have Flitz, but have heard it said that it is a "finer" polish than semichrome. Since i've been satisfied with either semichrome or Mothers, I have not purchased any Flitz.

Do you use the regular Autosol Metal Polish? That is the only one I have tried, but I noticed that they have a Dursol polish and a stainless steel polish too.

I have been using mostly Mother's Mag polish because it's cheap and I also load some leather strops with it, but I have use Autosol, Simichrome, Flitz, Brasso and Meguiars too. Autosol is the best I have used so far.
