The ultimate quest is to find the one knife that leaves nothing to be desired. Scratches the itch of buying and kicks everything else out and thats all you want to carry and it has been that way for a while. Has anyone completed the ultimate quest? and found their perfect knife that is the only thing they carry anymore and dont even care to buy anther because they know it cant beat what they have?

If so what is it, how long have you had it carried and used it. Pictures maybe?
if you dont have it do you know what it could be? Btw i dont mean it has to be some holy grail 2,000$ custom folder, if thats what it is then cool, but it could be a 100$ production knife too.
Im still searching for mine. Idk what it even could be at this point

These days I carry 2 knives everyday. A 950 rift and a Vic super tinker. I love my Rift so far, it's amazingly compact for the blade size and the two tone is just gorgeous in person, pics don't do it justice, but I know that I will try out other knives and it may not be permanent. My super tinker? That's permanent.

I own two super tinkers at any given time, one new in box/blister packaging and the other in my pocket. I've never worn one out but I do gift them to people. The super tinker is IMO perfect for urban EDC. It's a camper model with scissors (instead of a saw) and a hook. I use the bottle opener to open bottles. As a light pry tool. To scrape things if needed, most recently getting a sticker/sticker residue off of stuff. You could use a normal knife blade for some of those things but I think this works better. The knives get used and when dull I can touch them up on the underside of a coffee cup. Seriously, try it. It's not amazing, but it works and coffee cups abound in the city while sharpening equipment may not be at hand. Everyone wants a supersteel but I think the SAK steel works to it's advantage by being so easy to manipulate and so corrosion resistant. The punch awl gets used, the Phillips head gets used, the tweezers get used, the only tools I don't use are the tooth pick and the hook. I also keep a needle in a little hole under the Philips head. I've used that to reset electronics with the tiny button and to pop blisters.

If I could only have one knife at a time it would be my supertinker most of the time.

I just ordered the M4 Mini Grip (pre-order)and a set of Wilkins OD Green/Black layered grips. I am hoping this is the perfect combination.

My favorite knife under $300 is the ZT-560 hands down! Over $300 you have to try the Chris Reeve Sebenza 25. The sebenza 25 is a perfected version of the perfect knife (if that makes any sense)!

I don't look for the ULTIMATE knife. When I buy knives I just buy what I like at that time. Several times I thought I found what was for me the ULTIMATE knife, but as time passes my taste in knives changes. For example- at one time I liked modern style folders with black g10 handles, then I prefered titanium handles, now I prefer old-fashioned folders with stag handles.

Knives are like women, if you marry the first one you like you could be missing out on the joys of variety. And you can get stuck in a boring monotonous relationship. The same old thing day after day after day until your dead. Fortunately, getting a new knife is a lot cheaper than a divorce. Me, I'm against marriage, either with women, or knives.

Haha, isn't this thread the reason we're still here? For me, it will never happen. I have several knives that are very effective in their intended role. :)

I guess we wouldnt still be here if we found it thats true... unless... You were trying to rub it in everyones face lol "I HAVE THE PERFECT KNIFE THE MOST PERFECT ONE EVER MADE" i just made a few purchases myself but they arent at all the best knives ever made or grail knives.

Well, I'm not searching for the perfect knife. That was never the point.
My whole point was buying what I like and what I would prefer to carry.
I did find my perfect knife - CRK Large Sebenza 21.
It's the perfect EDC. I do not NEED another knife.
But I continue to buy knives, because I like them.

I totally dig where you're coming from. I have actually moved into a new phase in this quest, the Acceptance Phase.

I no longer think I will find the ultimate knife, but a small cadre of great, aesthetically/spiritually pleasing knives. I have four now I consider to be the tits: benchmade shori, benchmade 32, buck prince, spyderco delica. Each carries its own personality and use, and each is satisfying in its own particular way. I love how elegant the shori is. I love the 32 because its sleek and lethal looking and feels good to flip. I love the buck prince because its so perfectly simple and solid. And the spyderco is a workhorse.

But I already covet other knives.

I think the quest is futile. You're trying to "catch fish in the air." But, the trying is what makes it so addictive and fun. Especially whe it's no longer an impulse buy, but a researched, thoughtful purchase.

Personally, I think you will have more luck searching for Unicorns or Leprechauns. The 'Ultimate or Perfect Knife' is a concept that will be completely different from person to person. Not only that, but what might seem like the perfect knife for you today (If you could find it), might not be the perfect knife next year, next month, or even next week. It's a fantasy concept.

I've wanted an alloy steel Endura since I first began carrying one in 92. Stainless has always been less desirable to me. I guess it's the way and time I grew up. Anyway, Spyderco is getting ready to make my dream come true with the later in the year release of the Super Blue Endura and delica. That happens to be one of my favorites.

In addition, they plan a Cruwear Millie sometime in the future. The second of my dream knives. It's like they were designed for me.

I wish that could get me to stop wanting to buy more knives though. A new steel, clever design or just a piece of fine engineering will always lure me back even if I'm holding my favorite knife in my pocket. That's just the way it is. If I can do it without neglecting my responsibilities I'd think it was OK. There are certainly worse things I could spend money on.
