Hi guys, I am looking at buying the ultimate survival knife. It will be used in the most extreme environments. Salt water, dust and sand, snow. It will be used to cut wires, sheet metal, prying and digging. As you probably guessed, i am in the military in a "No we don't have anybody over there" type of unit. Some sentry de-animating functions would be also great. I prefer a fixed blade but a nice, fast folder could be considered. Please help me make a choice since i wont be able to buy another one in 2 months...

Thanks

May I suggest the search function? :) You will find more information and opinions on this topic faster than if people chimed in here slowly over the next several days.

A larger Busse. I'm not an expert but a Fusion Battle Mistress or a Anniversary Steel Heart would do all those things very well with minimal or no rust. The problems are: the FBM has a 10 inch blade and the ASH has an 8 inch blade. Also, they will both set you back at least 500 dollars (or so)I'm not sure how that would effect your chances of being able to carry said knife.

All of the above being said pretty much any Busse with a blade over 5 inches would work. Look into Scrapyard Knives. What they lack in edge holding and corrosion resistance they make up for in comfortable handles. They also are much cheaper but retain the same "bullet proof" warranty Busse's have.

Here's a link that shows just how tough Scrapyard Knives are: http://www.knifetests.com/scrapyardscrapper6test.html

Good luck with your choice! There are many more knives that could do what you mention.

Give me a break! You serve in a "special Unit" and you don't know anything about a good knife? Thats crap, I was in for 8, Infantry, with 2 combat tours. You may be able to fool some here with your " sentry de-animation functions" would be great. But not me. I am a mmember of Lightfighters.com and I plan to get a few techies over there to find out your service provider, your name, and where you live. These guys will then be able to check your military background and history. Tell the truth and I will let it go, but if you persist then I will expose you. Mods please let this stay, this guy has claimed to be an Elite fighting service member and needs to get what he deserves.

HAHA Gruntstorm... You and you super special techies.... you make me laugh and you are making an a$$ of yourself. As far as military history goes, good luck as i am not even American... You think the world revolve around your little belly button? Infantry is diversion for the real troops buddy. wow 2 combat tours... impressive... Now grow up, realize that even if i know my edges, a good second opinion is always welcome and go play with your little M-16. That kind of attitude is exactly what make the rest of the world hate the Yanks. A few bad apples like you.

Oh and one more thing dear Gruntstorm, you accuse me of your own assumption... I never mentioned that i was in a "fighting" unit, nor did i say that i de-animate sentries, i said i wanted the ability to...

Well, I agree with gruntstorm. The way you post, you sound like a 13 year mall-ninja-wannabe. We get a lot of those around here, and so we are suspicious of posts like yours. It smells funny. If I am wrong, then I apologize.

Never mind I won't contribute to this thread and it should be locked. Nough said. keepem sharp

Infantry is diversion for the real troops buddy.

yes, infantry is merely a distraction so the ninjas may work in the shadows

I appologize if it sounds funny, to start with, english is not my first language so keep that in mind please when judging and also keep in mind that there is lots of different cultures out there... I have nothing to prove to anybody, all i am asking is suggestions from various people and thoughts on what other consider a good blade. If you guys want to make a huge story out of it, go right ahead... I will just find another forum. Now if you want to help, then great and thank you. I know my life story and i never claimed to be in 69000 combat missions. The ones that are jumping on the amount of combat tours they did and all that are the sickbay rangers that spend half the time in sick parades because they have a sore throat...

Okay, you're looking for quality knives, right?

Busse Combat
Scaryard Knives
Swamprat Knives
Fallkniven Knives
Ranger Knives
Extrema Ratio
Bark River

Figure out your price range and pick a model from any of these brands and you have a winner.

I guess it depends upon your means of travel.
If you have a vehicle and will be operating out of a base camp, then just keep a crow-bar, some vice-grips, and an axe in your vehicle.
And just carry a swiss army knife and a good strong locking folder (like a Spyderco Manix or a Buck 110) on your person.

However, if you're going to be on foot and carrying your world on your back, then just buy a nice multi-tool (like a Victorinox SwissTool or a Leatherman Blast) and a strong locking folder (like a Spyderco Manix or a Buck 110).

Don't weigh yourself down with a large heavy blade.
Instead lighten your load so you can carry more ammo, more food, and most importantly, more water!

BTW, for self defense, forget the large knife and instead buy a nice snub-nose .357 magnum revolver.

Good luck,
Allen

Either one of these high-speed, low-drag cutting tools should suit your purpose. Be careful hard-charger.

LOL huge flash back, that Rambo knife in the first picture was one of my first fixed. Amazingly, it took quite a bit to destroy it...

And also thanks AllenC for the input.

Take a peek at the Bark River Bravo 1 or wet environment recon, for a decently priced quality blade.

Also try Ranger Knives "ready detachment" series.

You might try a Bark River Bravo-1. They have been serving us "yanks" quite well :D

It is a relatively light blade and is supposed indestrucable.

If you don't mind me asking, what hemisphere do you live in?

Two words....Dark Ops.

Four more words...Nope. Not buying it.

"de-animating functions"?!? Sheesh.

After reviewing what he wrote, being the lol, I've concluded that he at least lacks maturaty if not a credible backround.
