Here's an interesting combination: It was an offer that came with the 834-UH (not sure if it came with any other models). A small can of WD-40 was packed into the box along with the 834 and an offer to get a $3.00 check if you traded up your old knife for a new UH or OT, just send proof of purchase and your old knife. I believe this is the complete set, along with the off white use and care pamphlet that apparently fell off the box before I snapped the picture. The offer expired in March, 1990, so apparently it predates that date, by how long I can't say. Just pretend that's staglon on the knife, it's been slightly modified;):D.

Very cool! I've never seen that offer before. But then again, that doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot. There's all kinds of things I haven't seen before!:D

Eric, another amazing Schrade offer, is that a Herman Williams modification to the knife?

Russell

Russell, yes it is, can't mistake that beautiful stag:thumbup:. I do have to switch it out for an un-modified one to keep this box authentic. Here's a shot of the knife:

PS- Has anyone heard from Mr Williams lately? I haven't seen any sign of him at all, hope all is OK.

Beautiful set. Schrade must have made other WD 40 offers as well in knife sets.I purchased one originally from the Schrade collection with a larger aerosol WD40 can in larger knife boxed set with bling <cant remember which Schrade knife> and then realized USPS and Australia Post would never allow aerosol can to travel on an aeroplane and had to cancel the deal. Its an unusual offering isn't it? Hoo Roo

Thanks for that confirmation Larry, I thought I had seen one or two others somewhere. It is a bit unusual, that peeling sticker on the side of the can says "Excellent For Knife Maintenance". I believe that was a factory add on:D.

i have a 61OT by Mr. Williams. as soon as saw the 834 i KNEW what it was.
i hope Mr. Williams still checks in on occasion and will tell us, all is well and he continues to produce these absolute pinnacle of Schrade knives. sorry, can't post decent pics from here (but it is in another thread from a couple? of months back). roland

If you have some knives that are carbon steel you can wipe wd 40 on the blade with a clean finger or rag then get a dry rag and wipe it all off, there will be a light residue of oil left on the surface you cant see (dont rup too vigorously) it will act as a light coating to prevent rust. it should not attract dust either.
I use a brand called G-96 Teflon Gun treatment, which is great for this but I heard you can do it with light lubricants like WD 40 and CR C also.
Id do it every two or three months.
The G-96 seems to last a couple of years or more on my sword so long as it isnt touched. I havent tried the others yet just heard they work similar.
