Opening day for sharptails here in Idaho. A fine morning with my favorite GSP, Hank:

Anyone else gettin' out?

Not until Nov. 9th, that's when pheasant season opens. Oct. 19th is the opener for ruffed grouse, but you have a better chance of hitting the lottery, than seeing a grouse in New Jersey.

Oct 19, opening day in So Cal, quail and Chuker look out. Nice looking dog!

Heading up north in Michigan for our annual Grouse hunt tomorrow! Hope the bird numbers are better than last year, but no matter what I love Michigan's beauty in the fall.

Only picture Ive taken so far, a nice ruffed grouse. Got 5 already this year but its still early in the season.

That chukar country looks awesome smithhammer.
I've only been out twice for grouse, my youngest daughter got a ruffy with the 22.

Grouse hunting was always my favorite until they virtually disappeared around these parts. I really miss the old days sometimes.

Drove up to Grand Rapids MN Friday night with a new pup, "13 week old wirehaired pointer". We had nine flushes from seven different ruffed grouse. The good news is the pup was able to get on birds and isn't gun shy the bad news is I couldn't hit squat with my 28ga.. Given this is a low year in the cycle I was shocked and pleased to have so much action for the little guy. Went to a few woodcock honey holes no love there.

Another fine day in the field with Hank:

Keep the upland pics and reports coming!

Great pics. I'm jealous of you having a place to hunt wild birds. The grouse population here is so unbelievably low that it is a topic of conversation when someone jumps a bird. We still take the dogs out a few times each season but have not flushed a bird on government land in three years.

great pics of some beautiful and rugged country and that campfire pic with the dogs , sure made me wish I was there too!
you have a good looking GSP there in Hank!
grew up hunting bobwhite quail with setters , but the quail are about all gone here these days ...I really miss bird hunting with a pointing dog.

Hoping to get out for some grouse soon. Might try with the bow!

@smithhammer : that's some beautiful country! Love the first shot with the snow.
