I sent Kami a fax and told him to send about 15 village khukuris of various size and style and the village khukuris are already coming in! Kami will be sending about 15 this week.
Here's how Kami did it. He went down to the bus station and told a few travellers headed for various parts of Nepal the following:
When you pass through this and that village leave word that I am looking for a few khukuris.
The very next day two village kamis showed up with a couple of khukuris each! Word of mouth travels very fast in Nepal.
Why would they come so quickly? It's simple. The village kamis know Kami Sherpa and they know he will pay them more for their khukuris than anybody else in Nepal. He will pay from five to eight times what they would get if they tried to sell the khukuris locally. He will pay them two or three times more than a dealer in Kathmandu would pay them. They can take a day off, ride the bus into Kathmandu with two khukuris, sell the khukuris to Kami, take the bus back home that night and still turn a very decent profit for themselves.
My fear is now we are going to be flooded with village khukuris.
I'll start posting some pix as soon as they arrive.
Uncle Bill
PS: I forgot. We will try to supply the name of the kami and his village with each khukuri.
