The Waiting Game- ugghh...

Just looking for a bit of empathy here...

This ever happen to you? You order a knife online on a late Sunday night. Said knife shows as in stock, and you pay the charges for UPS Ground. You check and confirm that where you live is 2 days delivery time from the point of sale. Cotent that you've got another one on the way to enjoy, you enter your M-F grind with at least a little something extra to look forward to.

Assuming that if all were to go well, the knife would ship the day the order was acknowledged, and then two days later, you'd be all set. Right? Well, no.

The handy UPS tracking sites seems to mock you as you desperately try to get it to tell you something about the status of the shipment. Two days pass, and you consider caling the e-tailer to see if there were any delays. Then, on the third day after the order was placed, the UPS tracking page shows that the knife was shipped, and it's scheduled delivery is the following Monday- which is now seven days from the time you placed the order!

Still optimistic, you rationalize that perhaps delivery will still be made by the end of the week, as you're only 2 days away according to UPS, remember. HA! Wrong again, as by the end of the business week, the tracking info shows that your knife is sitting in a UPS hub, not 40 minutes from your house- biding it's time over the weekend.

Bummer.

Yeah, I know- rough life, eh? If my biggest concern is that a knife I ordered hasn't made it to my house when I wanted it to, then I surely should be thankful for what I do have. (and I am!)

I'm just saying, as a collector, enthusiast, aficianado, whatever- don't you just hate it when this happens? Or am I truly that messed up to begin with?

It's not like I'm angry with the e-tailer, or really even with UPS- things happen, I understand that.

But it's driving me completely mad! I want my knife! Arrrrgggghhh!

My name is Mitch. I have compulsive UPS tracking syndrome.

Firebat,
I do the same thing. It's so dumb. You'd think as a college student I'd have better things to do with my time.

Just try the waiting game on custom knives. I have a knife that was supposed to be 6 weeks out...placed my order 14 weeks ago! There are guys who wait for years longer than the quoted time.

Oh well, at least we're all together in this online asylum.

UPS tracking is a joke; it tells you that your package is enroute!

I used to be UPS' biggest fan; not any more.

Mitch-

Gald to hear I'm not alone. Actually, I've got a piece from Darrel Ralph that I've been waiting for as well, should be here on Monday or Tuesday. That one wasn't so bad, I guess, it's only like 5 weeks overdue.

Before that, the longest I ever waited was for a custom CRK Umfaan, which took almost nine months to receive.

Long lead times on custom knives I can understand. (to a degree) It just bugs me to no end that what should take three days ends up taking more than eight!

That's not to say my knife transactions always go that way. There is one specific online dealer that I can virtually bank on to have on time, repeatable results. Unfortunately, they just don't always have what I'm looking for.

Yep, it's a disease.

BTW, Mitch, I enjoyed your Hobby page. I really like anodized Ti, and saw some nice stuff on your jewelry page. Oh yeah, the knives were cool, too!

The very same thing is happening to me right now. I ordered a BM 705 8 days ago and it still isn't here and they also told me that the knife was in stock and it would only take two days to get here. I guess it happens to everybody sometime.

I've been there too.

. In fact, I don't really want to think about it, or I'll be FORCED to order ANOTHER knife, and start this waiting game all over again...

I know all about that. I ordered a Socom Elite, was given the tracking number of course. I tracked it to a city about 60 miles away and there we sat.

I was bugging UPS. They were saying things, well you know the kind of stuff they tell you, which just p#$*#&^$d me off. Eventually I got to being such a butt about it that I P#$%^(^)&d off my long suffereing wife. So there I was in the dog house, and still didn't even have the knife to show for.

I'm not real big on patience anyway, so when I'm waiting for that new unit to arrive, and it's late, I go ballistic. Worse than a little kid! Jack

No, no the WORST is when you miss the #$@%#!! UPS or FedEx guy the first day and you have to wait AGAIN! So you make time to WAIT around the next day but, of course, he comes four hours LATER that day and you have to be gone again. So you sign the little slip for him to leave your $300 new custom knife on your doorstep, because ANYTHING would be better than waiting some more. Then later, at work or whatever, you realize that you now have to WORRY about your package being stolen off of you front step for the next eight hours! I'm telling you folks, this is a DISEASE!

Of course you hate having to wait. When you order something you want it now! Each day that passes seems to be an eternity, you start to sweat, you can't sleep, you can't eat. Ow sorry, maybe that's just me. I think I'll just go and sit by the door and wait for my Sebenza to arrive.

Been playing the waiting game quite a bit lately.

Firebat, I've got a knife coming from Darrel, too. He told me about when it would be done, but I went ahead and figured in an extra month, just for my peace of mind. That way if it comes on time, it's a surprise, and if not, no big deal. I'm not in a hurry, and he's got a life, too(though he is welcome to give it up if it makes my knife get here a day sooner

Hello to all of you,
I am a real old guy, so old that you'd probably call me a skeleton who has not yet realized it's already dead.
I make a BIG joke of "outwaiting" everybody, my patience is "so unlimited", that at the end I always get what I want. How? Very simple, after a while they prefer to expedite things rather than having me calling once more.....

Worse when you live in Europe, we cannot track an order from the States.

Will customs steal it?
Will some postal worker see $300=knife and think hmmm Christmas early for me...
Will the knife get lost in the hole of quantium relativity where all the socks go?

I am the absolute worst about this kind of thing.
If I have a new knife coming UPS, and I have a tracking number, I usually "track" it 3-4 times a day. And just let the UPS truck venture into my vicinity and it's like Pavlov's dogs. It's silly & embarassing, but I have no patience at all...
