Hey Fellas,

We all know that the best kind of SD knife is a fixed blade. BUT...in some states, you can't carry one or it's simply not practical. With that said, I'm looking for a Tanto folder that has a strong lock and blade, that should be strong enough to hold it's own. I am strongly considering a Walter Brend Marauder (Manual). It's just shy of 4" and it really is a beefy knife with one nasty Tanto point. Brend is known for making excellent tactical knives so I wanted to see what you guys thought about this one. I have one of his Microtech SOCOM Tanto HP knives, but those things are fetching north of $3k. Not something I would consider as an EDC knife. Would love to hear the thoughts of those who know more than I do on this knife. Thanks!!

Harry

Looks like this...(but is a prototype with carbon fiber inserts)

I like it but like what I have a little better.
I prefer a traditional Japanese shape, including the handle, when it come to a tanto.

In looking at the pictures you posted, I'd be concerned with the transition point between the Tanto point and blade.
It looks like the grind literally has a vertical wedge that would hinder penetration, and a flat spot at the same point.

Actually, that "wedge" that you mention is NOT on the production models. I finally got one, should have it in 2 days or so. Spoke to a buddy of mine who had picked one up and he is CRAZY about it. I think it has something like 36 ball bearings in it? Something like that. I'll tell more when she arrives.
