Ron and I spoke this evening and shared a few laughs. All is at peace and there are no hard feelings on either side. I told Ron that it was starting to remind me of every faculty meeting I had ever been in. Two old stubborn academics banging heads so hard that the subject seems to become irrelevant. It just becomes a test of who's got the harder head. There were plenty of lumps for everyone.

Again, I apologize to everyone who had to read all of this nonsense and I hope we didn't lose any friends during these discussions. I thank you for your patience and hope that all of you will continue to visit the Busse Combat Forum. . . often.

Yours in friendship and respect,

Jerry

Ron and Jerry,

Part of the problem is the medium. People say things via the wonderful internet that 1) they wouldn't normally say in regular conversation 2) are easily misconstrued because you can't hear the sound of their voice or the look on their face and 3) people have disagreements all the time during normal conversation but they are almost always instantly worked out with a joke or a wink. Not in good 'ol cyberspace, i.e.,

The Moving Finger writes; and having writ,
Moves on; nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it.

It's easy to let your "friendly" guard down from the comfort of your computer screen because cyberspace can be such an impersonal and totally linear way of communicating.

I'm glad this worked out for you guys. Like so many flames, they can be somewhat painful to watch, especially when they occur between well-respected people.

Hoodoo

The low, hoarse purr of the whirling stone—the light-press’d blade,
Diffusing, dropping, sideways-darting, in tiny showers of gold,
Sparkles from the wheel.

NO WAY

The beer has yet to flow so it can't be over

All good discussions should be held over a beer as should have been this one. Ron and Jerry need to end this over a friendly beer and I'll buy the first one (Ron's will be easy as he only lives 50 miles North of me but Jerry when you coming to Idaho??? we do have nice brew pubs, and no they don't all use potatoes

)

Glad to see this get back on an even keel.

Man, I'm glad that things worked out! It was like watching 2 good friends go at it and not be able to get between them.
I've stated it before and I'll do so again, the net is both a great and a terrible place to communicate. Hoodoo, your points are well made, I wish everyone would keep the limitations of the medium in mind when posting.
Ron and Jerry, I can't drink one with ya', but I'll damn sure toast you when I do!

It was good to talk with an old friend... I gave Jerry a few ideas for a new knife design (For those of you who do not understand, that is a joke) and I think that we both have a clearer understanding of what went on.

Karen and I have always cheered Jerry and supported his efforts. We understand the sacrifices he has had to make in his growth (before and after the injury) and now we know the path in front of him. It is one that few knifemakers have had the opportunity to take.

We will continue to support him and recommend his knives... we never stopped doing that... anything else would have been a lie.

Jerry was right on.... two old academics doing battle... and enjoying it. I think we agreed that if we decide to have fun some other time, we won't do it where the flies will get in the stew.

Jerry never did recognize me behind the surgeon's mask... I was the one who peed in his IV bottle

Take care old friend,

Ron

"FRIENDSHIP"
How often the word is used, how often the meaning is NOT understood..

Jerry, Ron I salute you both, you know and live the code..

With Friendship,
Rick

Well done gentlemen. I’m happier than a Sus scrofa in a rather large quantity of digestive byproducts that the issues have been reconciled (my nod to the academic references). Now Jerry can stop visualizing grinding Ron’s head into a variant and Ron can quit naming his turds after forumites.

Peace, love, and soooooooouuuuuuuuulllll trainyeah!

Glad to see this issue got resolved without resorting to bloodshed or paper, rock, scissors. Both of you gentlemen showed us all why you are well respected. I am still disappointed however. I was hoping it would all end with you guys sending this poor college kid free knives and survival videos
