So where I live we are blessed to have an amazing wildlife population, I look out into the yard at night and see everything from foxes to deer, Most night when my wife and I go outside we will watch owls that sit right above my step dads shop, and in the morning their is a small war going on between a hawk we call "killer" and a band of pestering crowes. Last time I seen him kill a crowe was 2 days ago, he will fly over grab one and rip his head off. Now every moring he sits in the same spot and the crowes start pestering him, they will pull off bark and try to drop it on him, pull at his tail feathers and eventually he gets mad and goes in killing mode. I walked out last week up in the woods where he sits up in a tree and counted 12 dead headless crowe bodies, this guy aint no joke!!!

Hawks are just cool. I remember a couple of years ago I was doing some mowing in one of our pastures and the mower would scare the mice out and the Hawks would follow me and grab them when they made a run for cover. They are just so cool to watch.

Cool pics! I've seen crows harass hawks but ever actually saw one get decapitated! I've always been fascinated by birds of prey. Especially red-tail hawks and bald eagles since that's what we have around here. We have owls too, but they don't come out in the daytime and show off like hawks and eagles do. ;)

That is pretty wild...a hawk taking on a murder of crow is certainly serious business.

I watched a couple of red tails tag team a squirrel treed in a single tree in the cornfield out back with rather good effect.

Very interesting to watch, thanks for sharing. A video would be neat too!

I stood outside yesterday morning for around and hour trying to get him action, but the crowes eventually chased him off. It always starts with 3 or 4 and before to long 10 or 15 will show up and start messing with him bad! They pull his feathers out. Whats so wierd is I have never heard of a hawk killing a crowe, Ive actually heard that a crowe will play dead to hoax a hawk into the open where others can jump on him and kill him. Well this bad boy aint having that, first time it happened I was amazed!! I couldnt believe it, it was so fast. Those hawks have got to have super strenght in their claws and beaks to do damage like that.

I read a discription of a crow attack on an eagle and the observer was an ex fighter pilot so he gave excellent technical discription. The crows problem was that there were two eagles .So while they were going after the one on the ground the other eagle , high above, was unnoticed !! The eagle dove into the fray and the two of them made short work of the crows !!!http://www.knifemakerforums.com/showthread.php?t=1055
Here's the story,

Seems like a body with a .22 and some shorts could help the hawk while the crows were distracted...

That is some cool stuff. Large birds of prey are amazing. Here is a golden eagle killing a deer. You'll notice, there are not spots on that deer - it is small, but it isn't a little baby. That is one badass bird.

I cannot believe what I just saw on this video.

Utterly amazing.

Thanks for sharing the pics and story of the hawk with the killer attitude.
