Anyone watching the PBS Ken Burns series, "The War"? You should check out an episode. Lots of footage from Europe and the Pacific. It flips back and forth from the war and what was happening on the home front. Many interviews with people who where involved in various battles.

I've been anticipating this one, they've been talking about it for some time. The first episodes had some powerful stuff.

I'm hooked, I love Ken Burns' work. It doesn't matter how much you know about one of his subjects, he will put it into a perspective that will add tremendous depth for the viewer. Burns has the ability to interweave the personal stories into the big picture so that it becomes personal for us as well.

I've watched the "Civil War" mini-series many times and each time I learn something new.
I'm sure "The War" will continue to entertain and enlighten after several viewings.

Heard about the company made up of artists on the local NPR station. Not only did they make fake Jeeps, tanks etc, they were supplying fake intelligence to Nazi informants. Their job, after making the fake artillery etc, was to go into town and raise hell to attract the attention of any of those loyal to the Nazis in town.

I've been watching it nightly, Rob, as American history is one of my favorite subjects.

I think it is a very worthwhile show and endeavor though I'm a little disappointed that the program (by necessity due to time constraints) glosses over the details of many of the battles it covers. The human interest side is well fleshed out, however.

Hopefully it will provide an impetus for many folks to explore beyond the format of the show and read some of the many great books that go into depth about the battles and extraordinary heroism and sacrifices made.

Like others, I have found all of Burns' documentaries (Civil War, Baseball, Jazz, etc) worthwhile and of great interest.

I forgot to bring that up. As sort of a co-program, NPR has a series of shows on various aspects of the war as well.
I listened to the first one about the 10th Mountian Division, and the one mentioned above about the "camoflage" division.
Good stuff.

Last Sunday I saw a bit of the Ken Burns' series then watched Colors of Courage, a local presentation of the New Mexicans' war experiences. The local show was put together very well and had an overview of New Mexico's involvement with each war going back before statehood, then focusing on the 200th Coast Artillery and WWII.

I wish the local PBS station had bothered to put together a website for that show...
