i had an emerson CQC7 that was just terrible, got rid of it - one of those lemons ya hear about (heck the guy i sold it to loves it so go figure huh lol) but i recently got a 2000 commander in a trade, mostly to usea s trade fodder - i have been carrying it for a few wks and used to think the wave was just a hokey feature, no real use - i was wrong!! once ya get used to the thing, other means of opening become old fashioned and slow - why didnt i think of that?? so simple, and works great - i used to think EKI wasnt the greatest, but i changed my mind, i carry my commander 24/7 now, and eagerly look forward to a super commander, when/if they become available - emerson rules!!!!!!! i guess now, officially i declare myself a 'usual suspect' with all that that entails, and proudly may i add - now if i can just get that screen name changed lol..............

Welcome...
I think you meant `all that it entrails'. You still have to go through the goat's blood ritual that DonR and Sniper308 perform on new members. :D

Sidewinder is correct. Once you get good at the "Wave", take your right handed knife and place it in your left front pocket. Now grip it and come forward out of the pocket. :D

Full credit to Harry Humphries on this move.

I'm having trouble picturing it. To you brace the pocket clip with your pinkie as you draw? Do you keep the rest of the fingers extended to grip the handle once the blade's out? What I'm seeing in my head just looks awkward as all hell.

Had to go get a Commander to explain it:

Right handed Commander in left pocket

hand goes in and around the body . . . thumb on nonclip side, spine in the web between the thumb and index finger, index finger (and other fingers bent). The inside of my index is actually in the semi circular bend of the clip.

Draw straight forward, catching the wave on the pocket as you slide it forward.

As the knife pops open, open the three lower fingers and wrap around the body and the index rolls around.

Bing . . . Icepick grip.

Takes a few times to get it down

Bingo!....
mr Hollister....I think I got it..you use the top seam of the pocket to wave the knife out right? instead of the usual lower seam...?

The wave Commander (and wave idea in general) is a great design. I usually carry the Commander in an Emerson quick deployment kydex sheath. You simply cannot top the Emerson Commander as the best all purpose tough folding knife.

"Draw straight forward, catching the wave on the pocket as you slide it forward."

John - a subtle yet effective change from how I have been doing this move to date. I have always done it with more of a wrist rotation ro catch the seam and the blade can *over rotate* and slow the transition to a secure grip, this seems to fix that...thanks!

Stay safe - GPK

Once you get that down, try the "Waistband Wave". :D

I still haven't tried getting the "Lefty Waistband Reverse Draw" down yet.

try the "Waistband Wave"

John,

Are you sure that you are in the correct forum, making comments like that?

Regards,

Ed

John...a left handed reverse Wave from the waistband?!
seems a little dangerous for the pal below isn't it?

Derek got me started on that at Blade. I practiced it at the show (Bandaids in the pocket and a cell phone staged at 9-1- , just in case). :D

It's . . . . fairly easy, once you get comfortable with it. :D
