Hi guys
My first time using loveless bolts and dont like the little gap in between the bolt and nut once finished. Only on the one side as you would expect. How do you deal with this. Should I pein the bolt just prior to final finish sanding?

The only reason to use loveless bolt is for that certain look, other wise corbys are the way to go.

Ok thanks people. I was kinda stuck on the bulls-eye look but live and learn. Here is the knife as it looks now, just some more guard work and polishing.

PS It appears as a registered user I am not allowed to post a pic of the I made? Is this true?

Nice, if I was bugged that much and still wanted the bird's eye contrast I'd use a short sleeve and smooth pin and peen it in place. I use them on occasion, but most times peen a pin instead.

I use Loveless bolts and don't have any problem with it and have been using them on my culinary, camp etc knives since I was at Loveless Riverside shop in 96. He showed me, During assembly, to put a dad of Epoxy on the bolt before you tighten down the round nut and it will seal from any moisture.

They have been working fine since and are the strongest of the mechanical connections.

I think that Loveless bolts are easier to install and grind down than Corby's and I like the classic look of the Loveless bolts. They are stronger than they need to be. Larry

Loveless bolts are much stronger then corbys.

The little smile is traditional and fine with me.

Hey, I just came across an alternative to Corby bolts and Loveless bolts in the Jantz Knife Supply catalog. They are called "acorn bolts" also known as "Luke bolts". They are like Corby bolts except the centers are threaded rod which you cut to the length you need. I have not used them but they eliminate the "smile" of a Loveless bolt and will fit more thicknesses of handle. Maybe they are easier to use if you can estimate the thickness of handle in two places. Larry

Thanks for that Larry. They will be on my next Jantz order for sure! Much better idea the the loveless.

Just finished up my 1st knife, I used loveless on it, got the smiley too.

Nice knife BTW

GMBlades, You are welcome. Ironically I was finishing up a knife and after this thread decided to stock my blade in olive Micarta and use brass Loveless bolts with stainless centers. It came out very nice and "retro". I will be using acorn bolts in the future as well since I think most people will prefer the look. Larry

I generally have grown to like corby bolts better than loveless style fasteners due to their more "clean" finished look. But I still don't mind the halo produced by a loveless fastener. My customers seem to like the contrast of differing materials too.

This is one of my most recently completed knives, . . . and it included loveless style bolts.
