Last weekend we took our Granddaughter (who likes with us) to Spokane, WA to meet her mom so she could spend Spring Break with her, (mom lives in Helena, MT).

This weekend we had to go pick her up. Our daughter had car trouble so we had to go all the way to Helena to pickup the granddaughter. It is about 13 hours of drive time each way, without pit stops. So we left Friday evening and spent the night in Spokane, WA, which allowed us a bit of time to get to Helena on Saturday.

We were able to stop at a few old hardware stores in the Idaho Panhandle. At one old True Value store in an old mining town in Idaho I hit the Mother Lode of old Imperial clampacks. I bought five 943 fish knives (future birthday presents for grandsons), a 615 Camp Knife in clampack, and 685 Jack Knife in clampack. On the yellowed card in the clampack of the 685 is the copyright date of 1987, the rest had the date of 1994. The fish knives were $5 each and the other two were 6.79 + tax. I barely made a dent in their stock.

At a resort town I found a 278 Barlow in clampack for $9.98 + tax. (Note the difference in price between the mining town and the resort town).

In Missoula, MT I found an Ace Hardware store that still had a couple Schrades in their display. I got an SP1 Nighthawk with key-chain on closeout for $8.90 and a 897UH for $27.99, no box, so this will be my first user 897.

Not too bad for a rushed weekend trip. :D

There are still Schrades out there fellers!

I just saw this posting after the other one I guess it was your grandaughter who was in the accident and I guess she is doing Ok. I am glad. I need a couple of diamond edge imperials ( the older black handles for another display ( I think it is number 12 ). How are the knives ( that you are working on ) coming along . 13 hours one way is a pilgrimage. Any old automatics in those stores? LT

Yes LT, it is the same granddaughter that was in the wreck. She is doing better, thanks for asking.
I didn't see any automatics, but was really just looking for Schrades. I was hoping to find an old fixed blade or two.

Lt, did you see what I did with some of the 152 blanks I got from you? Here are the three I did with finger grooves. I don't know it you like finger grooves or not, but I really like them.

Here are a some others I made from Jantz blanks:

The center one is my first attempt with brass bolsters, and it turned out pretty good, IMHO. I am currently working on a bowie for a friend who has huge hands. I will send you a picture when I finish.

LT, when are you going to sell some more blanks? I only have two left and am waiting for special wood for them.

Take care,
Dale

Hey I am just glad you got back to me I figured I pissed you off . Seems to be my MOS I had a friend who had a big mouth ( like me ) also. he was a POW, not a good combo. He came back with no teeth and both achillies tendons cut and atrophied he spent a lot of time in a tiger cage and then the Hilton. He was never wound real tight but when he came back he really had a short deck. He was a Tunnel rat if you have ever met the breed Oh yeah he also was missing a few blown up fingers liquor took care of whatever still worked. We drank together and I give him credit he still hadn't Learned to shut up. All that punishment and I never knew him to tell a lie. I guess he would have never made a good president. I think the knives are neat, individuality is the name of the game at this point. I have a few makers who stop over and usually if they see a blank they like I give them one and then a second with the comment one for me one for you sometimes it works. I just got one I will try to post a pic tomorrow. I have gotten a few requests so I guess I will put some more stuff up, I have been trying to set up storage and some displays at least the Oracle ( Mirando Stone ) is mostly done. It is tough for an old fart by himself. However I am not complaining . Stay well, give them HELL LT. PS posted pics of the knife black walnut handles ( right from the tree ) canted cross draw sheath. pics not so great since the knife is a very high polish and quite reflective. Fingerprint on blade due to my laziness.
