Last weekend we took our Granddaughter (who likes with us) to Spokane, WA to meet her mom so she could spend Spring Break with her, (mom lives in Helena, MT).
This weekend we had to go pick her up. Our daughter had car trouble so we had to go all the way to Helena to pickup the granddaughter. It is about 13 hours of drive time each way, without pit stops. So we left Friday evening and spent the night in Spokane, WA, which allowed us a bit of time to get to Helena on Saturday.
We were able to stop at a few old hardware stores in the Idaho Panhandle. At one old True Value store in an old mining town in Idaho I hit the Mother Lode of old Imperial clampacks. I bought five 943 fish knives (future birthday presents for grandsons), a 615 Camp Knife in clampack, and 685 Jack Knife in clampack. On the yellowed card in the clampack of the 685 is the copyright date of 1987, the rest had the date of 1994. The fish knives were $5 each and the other two were 6.79 + tax. I barely made a dent in their stock.
At a resort town I found a 278 Barlow in clampack for $9.98 + tax. (Note the difference in price between the mining town and the resort town).
In Missoula, MT I found an Ace Hardware store that still had a couple Schrades in their display. I got an SP1 Nighthawk with key-chain on closeout for $8.90 and a 897UH for $27.99, no box, so this will be my first user 897.
Not too bad for a rushed weekend trip.
There are still Schrades out there fellers!
