i have seen this game in many diffrent set ups. I think i have a good one for us to think on. here how it happens, You have traveled in your car, truck suv, to meet some bush buddie's some where you have never been before. out in the boonies. you have done your hike and hot dog roast on the way home you make a wrong turn and whined up on a backroad made of gravel. you drive for a while and the road just keeps going it's dark now and you can't see the terrain suddenly there is a quick 90 dergree in the road you make that then run off the road rite after . you are ejected from the transport and thrown down a hill . You fall into what seems to be a river with high banks but buy luck there is some riff raff foalting buy you are able to cling to. you float for awhile before coming to a log jam which you are able to get up on, when its light you see that there is a way out of the river .it is early spring and the weather is unpredictable, but not life threating at the moment. you have taken a nasty bump to the head and have a injured leg pulled tenden. all you have is what you would normaly carry on your person no WATER PROOF SAT phones:D and no onstar in the car:grumpy:. you know form the local guys that the area isnt traveled much and no one will be expecting you for a few days. what would you do try to find a way out or just sit and wait. pics of your carry opps are always welcome still thinking on how i would go about it.

How long did I float for... If I floated all night.. than I'm pletn far from the wron turn I originall made, and Plenty far from any road I'd know of being not familiar with the area.... I 'd get on shore.. and get ready to hunker down..However I'd keep my eyes open for recognisable topographical features.. (have I ever seen a map of the area?0
I normally have either a multi tool or a pocket knife of some kind.. and when headed to the bush I have a small belt pouch.. with a fire steel.. some tinder, a photon light.. a whistle and biic lighter and a small tin knife..
Weather is unpredictable so shelter is the first priority .. So I'd probably construct a debris hut of some kind..
FOllowed rapidly by collecitng fire wood Lots of it) as it is spring and my clothes are wet...after shelter and fire are established I can start thinking on how to boil some water...those would be my Top priorites... Than I'd could at least dry out, and stay that way and not lose efficiency due to dehydration..THan after the initial work was done and the panic had time to cycle down. I'd start to really way my options. one of them might be after my leg had rested a bit perhaps following the course of the river the best that I could.. Hopefully it might lead to a more settled area.

time frame is unknow last you look a the radio clock it was 8:00 pm and cause of the trama from the wreck you have forgotten to look at your watch. i like your answer sounds close to what i was thinking.

i have thought about it for a minute and i would get to shore. find a cruch of some type and get a little hight from the river in case of rain. would build my debris hut and start to gather some stuff to maintain a smokey fire it's spring so there would hopefully be some green stuff to keep on it. i usaly always 98% of the time have my swiss tool x my swiss forester and either my bravo 1 and gunny or ASH1 LE and cultie with me. along side my bark river firesteel or my strike force firesteel. i rotate the fixed blades cause i can never choose which one to carry and the BRKT firesteel stays with the BRKT knifes so the firesteels get rotated as well. im kinda torn on weather to fight or flight on this cause the thought of laying there and just waiting doesnt sit well with me even though i know it's the best thing to do.

I like RR's answer, the only thing I would change is that I would probably try to head back up the river to the crash site (once I had a fire and was dry and had determined that I was in shape to travel). At least that way I know what I'm getting into, plus I might find some thing in the car that is still useful to me. I realise that there is the possiblity of civilization being much closer down stream but at least I know what I'm getting into by going back to the car.

that was the secound oppion for me the 2 things that come to mind with that is 1 what if there was a split in the river and 2 what if the car went in the river as well.

For me either way, I would go back. One thing about rivers is that if you go downstream you're going to get a bigger, harder to handle river and you might run into a waterfall. Even if there is a split in the river, when you go back it's going to converge back into one river. Even if the car went into the river you still will have a chance of saving some gear or something usefull from it. Plus, if you go back to the car, you know where the road is in relation to the car. It's much easier to be rescued on a road.

I think I would be screwed. I am thinking if I got ejected from my truck, I have more than a nasty bump on the head.

My PSK is attached to my chopper, which I don't wear on my belt in the truck. I almost always have a multitool on my belt (lately it has been a Swisstool X) and a lock blade knife in my pocket (lately it has been a Griptillian), but my photon and my scout steel are on my keys, so no light & no easy fire. I guess I would try making a bow drill and get a fire going, probably shelter in place one night and move out the next morning if I am able. Once I felt good enough to move, I would move back upstream toward my vehicle.
