Excuse me, but the above quote is wrong - Deadhead's guess was 293, wasn't it?
 
They're both wrong, the scale's calibration is off. Jason's scale reads 6.4 lbs light! :D Meaning it's 299!!!! I'm the winner!!

It seems simple to me: one guess is 1.6 lbs off, the other is 0.4 lbs off. Either way, it's whatever you want to do, Jason. You made one helluva generous offer in commemoration of one helluva sacrifice for our freedom. Adding the 'Coot as a consolation prize? Unneeded but generous beyond words.

yes, absolutely. above and beyond.
 
Same problem as first contest. Conditions were guess the blank. Not 'exact # only' (unlikely) or 'closest guess wins' or 'price is right' (???-valid if stated or chosen by contest holder but an unusual choice, to say the least). Either decide on a deciding rule ( Gravelface-your contest, your rule/decision) or have yet another contest and lay out the conditions for winning before-hand. I won't say 'so that no one can argue with them' because that would be very to extremely difficult. Some folks will 'argue' about anything. Pete
