A few days ago, the wife got back home from shopping, just as I was leaving for work. She asks me, Do you want to see what I got ?

She reaches into her purse and pulls out a pink camo Buck Bantam. It is a BBW 284, the small version. I have had a camo (not pink :D)
Large Bantam for a couple years, and as she hands it to me to check out, she points at the blade. Buck USA...
She says, I don't think yours said USA on it. She hasn't seen mine for quite awhile, and I'm not sure how she remembered mine was made in China, but she did.
The blade is centered, opens and closes smoothly, and has no blade movement side to side, or up and down when locked. It's a nicely made little knife...
Anyway, here it is.

Nice! That is the same knife my wife has in her purse.

 It is a neat little knife. I always thought that the small ones would be to small in hand, because I have big hands, but it really isn't bad. I wouldn't mind having one, but I think I would get black. :D

Nice knife... My sister bought one the other day... She got the next size up... She loves it... I need to get two of them for my Granddaughters and one for my collection , I won't ever use it... :D ... I just want to put one away... I would like to get a orange camo one for hunting...

The orange would be good for hunting. I have the green camo version, and the clip on my first one didn't hold as tight as I thought. One hunting season I shot a Coyote uphiill from me. The knife was clipped in my pocket when I holstered my pistol. I went up hill about 25 yards to get the Yote, and when I got back to the pickup , it was gone. My buddy and I looked for that knife for probably 20 minutes, and never did find it. The green camo works to well :D

I made sure the clip on my second one held tighter :D

I think they are both keepers.:D

I find it kinda weird (not nessicarily bad ) that buck is producing modern folders sans the pocket clips. I had an older imported 284,however used it mostly for improving my sharpening skills but I remember it being a quality piece and carried it on a couple of occasions and to be honest I don't believe I really missed the pocket clip too terribly much.

I am guessing it is because the knife is small. But then again, other small knives have clips. Not really sure why they don't put one on this version, but its small enough to drop in a pocket, and not be uncomfortable.

Knice nife to give your wife Mike. I got the 286 from a friend of mine who had them as his company's promo knife. It is a china model 2007. I have loved it from the word go. Solid as a rock. My wife got me a USA 285 to match it.

I wish I could take credit for it, but she came home with it on her own :D They really are a great knife.

It was really nice to see the U.S.A on the new ones  Not that there was anything wrong with the off shore made knives, but it is always a good feeling to see them brought back here.

I went to the store she got her knife from , and was going to pick up a new Bantam in black, but they were out of stock. So, thi sweekend I 'll find one at another store, or just get one online

I think pocket clips are like thumb studs and the three stooges. People either like 'em or hate 'em with few folks being lukewarm on the subject.

I can't stand knives with thumbstuds or pockets clips. I'm carrying a Christmas tin 482 today that lacks both. That's why I bought it. Would have passed on it if it had either. I'm glad Buck makes both styles.

I think youre right on with that.

I agree about pocket clips, though I like thumb studs on a lot of knives, not all, but alot.
