the wire clip

While I love my caly 3.5 and my sage 1 I have never been a big fan of the wire clip. Or a wire clip on any knife for that matter. Mostly looks but they just don't feel like all my other spydies.
Was wondering if anyone makes a non wire clip that would work on a spyderco. Kind of picture two tabs on the backside that would fit in the wire slots and a hole at the top to access the the screw.? Anyone ever seen anything like that ?

That's a question that gets asked occasionally around here and I've still not seen an answer.
I've even mulled over the idea of fabbing a few up for myself.
The upside to the wire clip though is that some of them are deep carry and are interchangeable with the normal height carry clip. I've changed all of mine over.

While the deep carry is nice would still like to have a full clip vs. A wire one. Might also see what I can come up with.

I brought this us a while back and found most people simply like the wire clip better than the solid clip and have no interest in replacing their wire clips or having someone fabricate a replacement. I'm also in the group that dislikes the wire clip, mainly due to its flex from side-to-side and appearance. At the same time, I own several Spydercos with wire clips and mostly I tolerate them. If I can't tolerate the clip, I remove it. The Dragonfly without a clip is always in my pocket and it's probably my favorite knife ever.

As for deep carry clips, mostly I don't see the reasoning. If it's for concealment, the clip is still visible no matter how deep the knife rides. People will see the clip and, these days, everyone will know there's a knife there. It also can make the knife difficult to remove from the pocket in some instances. Again, the wire clip with its flex is the worst offender here. On the other hand, I do have a couple of knives with deep carry clips that have worked very well--a Buck Vantage Pro and an Al Mar SERE 2000. Neither of them use wires.

I was getting myself psyched to buy the Manix2 s110v. However I was hesitant about the wire clip. When I found the Native in s110v I jumped.

I have a Q with a wire clip, but don't mind it. It's designed to be ultralight

My first wire clip was the Sage2 and at first I didn't like it at all.
Now my edc since May has been a Manix2 S110V and it is by far my favorite type clip.

The side to side movement bothered me at first but I have found it to be nothing but solid and secure.
I work construction and carry stuff in all manner of ways that contact the clip and I have never caught it on anything.
I am glad I gave it a try and didn't go by my first impressions.

While it works fine I feel like it lacks the look and feel of quality. I'd like an hour glass on my Sage 1.

I've always loved the "wire clip" on my original Blue PE Dodo and I've wished that they would give us a jazzed up, thicker version of the wire clip. I've had great luck with it compared to some of the other clips. The only one I liked better was the Clip that came with all the GUNTING models. They have never yet out-done that one.

One complaint I've got about most of their clips is that the paint tends to come off way too easy in my opinion. I'm sure that they could use a more durable epoxy type paint. I truly love the looks of my Ayoob with the Golden Spydie on it and the Gray/Silver Spydie on my Caly Jr.

The Wire Clip is OK in my book but there is always room for improvement

I was skeptical of my wire clip on my Sage 1 when I first got the knife. It's a really tight fit when clipped to the pants pocket and its more sturdy than it appears. Something else that was cool is that everyone I work with has seen me/or knows I carry a knife clipped in my pants pocket and on the first day carrying the Sage I (while wearing my business suit) several people asked, "No knife today?" I had to pull it out and show them I still had one. The black wire clip is cool that way....it just disappears up against black or dark colored suits. Consequently, the wire clip has not failed me, and my Sage only moves when "I" want it to.

I prefer Spyderco s wire clips. All of mine have been secure and they are lighter.

Pretty much how I feel. Not a real biggie just prefer the hour glass. That and the small side to side with the wire clip rubs the scale up a little.

I too prefer a regular clip over a wire clip, but the wire clip works real well, and is perfect for the Dragonfly. On larger knives, it gives off the impression of cheap.

I have been very happy with the wire clips; have never experienced a problem with them. They're light and secure.

I dislike wire clips i just feel they are an ugly abomination that deserve to stay on cheap small and light knives as they are atrocious and offer subpar retention no matter how you tighten them.
A 500 dollars mrsp spydie with a wire clip...? ROFL, sorry.
Anyway i'll just stop buying Spydies once they start pushing the wire clips on 'serious knives' like the Millie, Endura etc.

Also not crazy about wire clips. I end up just taking them off and pocketing whatever knife. Someone should start making replacement clips for the wire indents. They would make a killing I bet.

I also asked this question a while back, Im sure theres someone that could do it. I think the wire clip is an interesting idea, but its just not for me. feels too flimsy and slides out of my pocket easy

The hour glass clips such as the gayle bradley are probly my favorite, need to get another one of those..!

I had to update this because the new wire clip on the Dragonfly is NOT as rugged as the one that was on my 15+ yr old Meerkat. LOL, please excuse my ignorance. I'm getting old & senile.

I just found my DF wire clip SMUSHED over to one side and had to tighten it up considerably to get it to feel snug again. Funny part is just have the DF in a change pocket in my jeans with a longer fob to grab to pull it out instead of clipping it to my pants.

I love the wire clip, it's easily my favorite folder clip by any maker. I do prefer the older, heat-treated ones as they were a nice deep bronze color.
