There was a time when I used to post a lot of threads here, outlining my hunt for 'Pointy Treasure', and examining various aspects of Sheffield knife history. The posts tended to be lengthy, with a large number of images. I don't post threads like that anymore, because every few years, some web wunderkind comes along, and does such a fantastic job of re-vamping the BF software, that the old posts are effectively destroyed - the text mangled, and the photos lost - and most importantly, there is no way to re-edit those posts. Earlier today, meako meako made a kind post in JohnDF JohnDF 's generous giveaway, in which he referred to the Wizard's Quest. Realising that newer members wouldn't know to what Jon was referring, in my response, I included a link to one of the Quest posts. Unfortunately, I subsequently realised that, while the last forum software change was considerably kinder than the previous one, none of the links contained in the older posts now work. So, for those who have an interest, I've searched down the threads, and am pasting in new links below. Since there's no way to re-edit the posts, it's not possible for me to correct the mangled text, or restore the missing pics, something which affects at least a third of the earlier threads. For those of you who don't know, or have forgotten, the Wizard's Quest was based on a challenge, issued to me by meako meako , in the first link below, and which I spent much of 2014, and many thousands of Pounds (cash not weight unfortunately) fulfilling. My main reason for posting this thread is simply so that I can link to it in future

I'd forgotten it took 41 posts to get to the challenge. Not irritating at all.

Thousands of pounds?
I was taking a couple of days a week off work, and I neglected a lot of work. As a writer, after spending the morning writing up my travels, I often didn't feel like getting back to my job! Then there was the travel, and the expenses associated with that, not counting all the other stuff I bought along the way! :D I remember working it out at the time, and it was a frightening amount, it took about a year for my bank balance to recover

meako meako asked me if I fancied doing another one a few years back :) Definitely not! :D ;)

That was a big chore, Jack... Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Searching for the threads and copying the links was certainly a chore John. With some of the threads themselves having been mangled by the software changes, they may now be of very limited interest here, but I hope it was worth the time. I wish I could edit the threads themselves, and it is the same with many old threads, some of which were a useful resource, rather than just a bit of fun. Threads with less than a thousand characters can still be edited, or threads with less than 20 photos, anything bigger than that is effectively locked. I decided some years ago that threads like this were no longer worth doing, as others may have done :(
