Hi guys!

I had the luck to win vanguards GA. So he was sending me these two gems from his collection.

A Hammerbrand Barlow and a KaBar Peanut

I never owned a Barlow before or even a Hammerbrand nor any knife with an acrylic handle!
Now I really start liking this material...

The knife is used, for sure. But that gives it the right character! The blade is nicely "patinaed" and full of history :)
The longpulls are very nice made!

The Peanut which vanguard was also sending me is really a nice knife. The shape is much thinner than on the Case 'nuts.

Here is a size comparison to the Case 'nut.

I needed to start on own thread for this. Both knives - Hammerbrand and KaBar are not available in Germany. I haven´t seen them on any shop in good 'ol Europe.
Both are workinghorses and won´t become safequeens right now. I´m glad owning such great knives.

What I wanted to add on this subforum - the generosity in this place is so great. I´ve never seen this anywhere before! :)

Kind regards
Andi

That's great Andi congrats on winning the GA, it couldn't have gone to a better member of the Traditional Forum. That barlow looks very cool

Congratulations Andi for winning the great looking knives and to vanguard for his generosity. A winning combination for sure.

Congratulations on winning the GA Andi. I can just see the smile on your face:D. Both knives are very cool and will serve you well. Very kind of Vanguard as well.

Thank you guys! The Barlow is just fitting in my pockets right now :)

Kind regards
Andi

Careful with that Barlow Andi, they have a way of creating a soft spot in the heart for them!
These knives have definitely found a good home!

Happy they got there safe and sound, although they managed to get some rust on them after I had cleaned them before being sent out. :p

Good on you Vanguard...and Andi, well done, I still see you posting the Canoe you won off me, and it gives great pleasure to see you still have that knife with you. I think the Kabar is a sleek little wonder
Well done guys!

Thank you for the kind words - guys :)

A great place here to spend time ...

@ Duncan: This is my very first GA, I ever won. The only Canoe I own is an Eye Brand in stag. ;)

Kind regards

Message coming your way my friend!

Hi Duncan!

No problem ... being honest I also read some posts of thejumppa and thought to myself "I can´t remember, that I posted this" sometimes I´m really a little weird ;)

Kind regards

Hi guys!

I have a free week from today on. I planed to paint my carport, which I built last with year with my dad. But today the weather was horrible. So I had two ways to go - First lying on the couch and watching TV or working on knives (some indoor activity). You can bet what, I have done.

The knives I got from Vanguards GA needed some work. Inside the springs there were rustspots. Which I had to remove. Also on the tang of the Barlow was some rust. I removed the rust with steelwool and very very fine sandpaper. Outside there were also some spots, here and there.

I didn´t want to ruin the patina, so I worked very slowly with careful hands.

The finished work

After that, I gave some sharpening with a 220 waterstone and an 1000 Arkansas oilstone and after that I did some stroping. First without compound, then with compound.
Now these two fellows are razor sharp.

And the Peanut

Then I use some mineral oil for the pivots and the joints. I´ll let it in that oil until tomorrow and then using my wife´s ultrasoundbath (she uses for her glasses) to clean the knives inside the tang/pivot/springs.

I didn´t want to ruin their old and wornout look. And I think it happened good. What do you guys think?

Kind regards
Andi
