Is it any good? Should I get it?

I like folders and have close to nothing in my knife library - but I am changing that...

I have the book and feel it's an excellent one for anyone who loves folders. A lot of the info in it is out-dated, but I enjoy reading about folding knives, and it's obvious from a lot of the photos that Steven Dick really uses the knives he writes about.

I would like to see a sequel to it in the coming years.

I think it is quite a good book, but it is a little out of date in terms of current steels, talonite and models currently available. But it's still quite good. Check out the Polkowski folder.

definitely good reading for those into tactical folders. There's a nice mix of factory and custom blades. I hope Steven Dick does another volume of this book, including the new developments in blade materials and folder locks.

10x Guys - looks like this book is a must read - even if a little outdated.

10x for the info.

I really like the book. Dick is not always easy on icons, but I find that he is most pragmatic in his comments and my experiences, while VERY much more limited than his, tend to support his.

I feel the book is excellent.

As far as the criticism that the book is outdated, I believe this is undeserved. Any book on knives is going to be outdated by the time it is written, edited, published and distributed. I'm guessing it probably takes a good two years to bring a book from blank sheet of paper to in your local Barnes & Noble, and as we are all aware alot can changed in the knife world in that time.

If you want to read about the latest and greatest knives, you are going to have to read the magazines and also buy the yearly book such as "Knives 2000", which is already somewhat out of date as it was written and published in 1999.

"The Practical Book of Knives" by Ken Warner is also a good book despite dating to the Seventies. A buddy picked up a copy for $5 on eBay, and that's alot of good info for the bucks.
