A bizarre car that has been dubbed the 'ugliest automobile in the world' is today back on the road 50 years after its launch.

The unique Aurora, a 19 feet long monster that was built by an eccentric New York priest as the ultimate safety vehicle, is now turning heads again.

In the mid-'30's Chrysler introduced their Airflow. It was like the Edsel-you loved it or you became nauseous. It had lots of innovations, the one I remember most was the solid roof,no oak & fabric top. It was a fast S.O.B. too. A lot of police chiefs favored them. They petered out after a few years but :) it was & is my favorite Chrysler product.

That is pretty un-lovely.
As production cars go, I would have to cast my vote for either:
1) AMC Matador, or
2) Mid to Late 1970's Ford Ranchero

Damn. At a glance you won't even know which is the front and which the rear end.

Very ugly.

Now here's the real ugh-liest american car, and the scary thing is that they really made 'em.

1) Pontiac Aztec

2) AMC Gremlin

3) That Caddy ~1977 with chopped off rear end

You're all wrong.

The ugliest car I ever have seen was the 1960's Citroen from France. It literally had the face of a grouper. (Thats a fish)

Ugliest car? I still think I would take that car from a priest then an Aztek from the retards at Pontiac.

BTW, given that AMC had no money to actually design and build a new small car, I actually kind of liked the Gremlin, except that God help anyone parked next to one in a parking lot. The doors on those things were absolutely huge and enormously heavy.

I remember watching American movies from the 60s and 70s and thinking they made some of the ugliest cars in the world at the time. Especially bizarre were those things that had wooden sides! The English and Europeans made some pretty weird things too but these were so weird they became simply amusingly eccentric.

Another vote for Aztec as the ugliest car. At least the Aurora had some flow in its lines...the Pontiac however...has always left me at a loss for words.

My vote would have gone for Aztec (especially in that Halloween Orange paint!). However, I've read many a review from automotive journalists who praised it once they got to drive it.

(and if anyone has a MINT AMC Pacer for sale - let's talk.)
