Just finished this one, finally, for ZOO, so it's named in his honor. 8 5/8" long overall with a 3 7/8" blade. Thicker edge than I usually do, but with a high, flatgrind it still cuts. I nearly lopped my thumb off when I slipped while fitting the sheath! 1/8" x 1" 1095 stock was used on this one. Clay coated heat treat, of course! Handles are African Blackwood with aluminum hardware. Sheath is Concealex. Thanks for looking and opinions are always welcome.

Congratulations, that's a great looking knife. I'll bet it cuts like crazy, too, not withstanding the thicker edge.

Nice looking knife, groovy hamon. Have you though about doing an elephant leather or shark skin overlay on the kydex on that one? That would be too sweet.

Thanks, guys.

Knifetester, I'm really not into the use of leather or animal-based products on my knives, regardless of their source. Just not my thing. I have a little rayskin I'll use on some Japanese style knives, but other than that I just don't get into it. The Concealex style sort of sucks for more classic knives like this, but it makes a good using sheath, so I guess it works.

mikey likey. nice hamon, very cool and usable design!!

Chiro,

I really like you work, I have been oogling over your designs for a while now.

I am a big fan of flatgrinds and carbon steel w/ clay tempering. I have tried to get good hamons on 1095 and just cannot seem to pull it off.(I think it is in the way I am polishing :( )

I just need to suck-up and order one of yours.

Do you mind if your knives are used to skin game as they look well suited for the task? How about cutting up a nice fat juicy veal cutlet?

Another nice one Steve, looks like it would make a nice knife to have around the kitchen.

Anthony, as long as people aren't our doing illegal stuff with my knives, I don't really care what they're used for. I just don't like to use animal based products on my knives in their construction. It's not even really an animal rights thing. I just don't think I would be able to do these materials justice.

Eddie, I haven't done anything special on any of my knives in terms of finishing, yet. I wet-dry sand with plenty of water and a soft-backed sanding block to 1000-1200 grit, then a quick dip in ferric chloride (varies knife to knife, but this one was probably in for about 15 seconds). Then I go back and wet sand really lightly once more with the last grit of paper I used, and that's it. Nothing to it. If I can get off my butt and sell a few more knives and get my budget back up from 28 cents, then I'll get some abrasive powders and start implementing what Don Fogg and Tai Goo have told me about "opening the grain" of the steel up, etc.

very nice. I really like your work Chiro. I would have to get one of your knives if I had much use for EDCing small fixed blades. (I have considered it before, but I dont do much of anything that a folder cant handle, and in Mo fixed blades are not allowed to be concealed. So if I happened to have my shirt fall over the sheeth on my waist, it would become illegal (not to mention a FB would push the campus weapons policy a notch further.)
