The Zoomer. A close look.

:) Tis indeed.

Another one of those Spydies that looks strange, unusual and perhaps a little bit wrong. But when you take it hand; there is an epiphany of understanding that takes place and it all makes perfect sense.

The designer and the maker knew exactly what they were doing with this one.

Never heard of Mr Zoomer before; but his street cred  (in my eyes) skyrocketed after I held this knife in my hand.

We met him at the Amsterdam meet years ago. The project took years to complete. He refined the design a few times and it was better each time. He made hand carved wooden models each time, and we were shipping back and forth from Golden to Netherlands. And yes, both he and the maker are to be commended. It's difficult to make, so quite expensive, but the other Bushcraft knives we built have also been expensive.

I purchased, personally, some of the "NASA" Bushcraft design ( the Proficient ) because it is so unique, and so effective and will probably never be made again. Special gifts for special people. I'll probably do the same with Tom Zoomer's piece.

Saw it in the case when I was at the seconds sale. I love everything about it except the price tag. Maybe I'll win the lottery, or take up some new hobby that would justify buying it.

Dear Zoomer owners,

I've heard complaints about the OEM sheath. Curious about any long-term sheath user reports?

I've also seen a couple pics posted her with what look like either a JRE Industries Model K or Q aftermarket sheath? With the thicker Zoomer handle does the Q work better? And his is that sheath working compared to the stock sheath?

And any other recommended aftermarket sheath options (eg custom Kydex)?

Thanks.

The only reason I can see for complaining about the stock sheath is a personal dislike for that style. It is very well-made, and the swivel action keeps the knife handle from digging into you when you sit down. Then again, I live on the open plains where dense undergrowth is non-existent, so I never have to worry about it snagging on things.

I can't help with other sheaths, I'm still using the original (yes, I picked one up on the secondary market).

I think one of the complaints I read about the original stock sheath was that it loosened up over time, and the knife wasn’t very secure. Pure gravity hold.

This guy used a lanyard to attach it through the lower button compartment to solve this problem, but that didn’t seem very ideal to me:
