A few months ago my dad was looking for an attractive, small new folder and I had a discount at a store, so I suggested the Zulu. I had been very curious about it since it came out but was leery about the handle size and comfort. Well after his landed, I knew I had to have one! What a gorgeous knife and cool design! The G10 is just outstanding…they are easily as nice as the Cuscadi scales I have on my Ritter Grip.

I’ve carried it almost exclusively over the last 6-8 weeks and wanted to share my impressions.

After I got hold if it, the design made sense to me. I tend to hold it further towards my fingers and it’s soooo comfortable. It has a really natural feel in the hand and the grip lends itself to cutting handily.

The knife is great in the kitchen and does the job with all manners of meats, fruits and veggies. Might not be the laser my Centofante was with beef and chicken, but the Zulu's blade shape seems made to go through fruits. Carrots are always a challenge to my non-kitchen knives but the Zulu worked great with them too.

Besides a usable tip, that upsweep edge almost seems like an extra cutting surface. I use it as a push cut that’s almost vertical downwards…very handy!!

As I live close to a Cabelas, I’ve been buying my 22lr at 50 rounds a box…let me tell you I have cardboard to cut! The edge held up pretty well, but I did notice I needed to pay more attention to where I was on the blade. As the cut left the recurve section, I would almost fall out of the cut as I extended my arm.

Speaking of the edge, I have struggled at times to maintain it. I hand sharpen with stones and strop mostly. For awhile I maintained it pretty well with my kitchen steel, but I totally lost the edge at one point. I had to use my dad’s sharpening set up to bring it back. Granted I’m no great sharpener by any stretch, but I usually do ok. The Zulu is more work for me for sure.

As for carry, this is a nice small blade. I’ve pretty much only carried my Para2 or Griptilian, so a smaller knife has been a change. You can see how high this carries- you can see that beautiful G10 a block away!

For a size comparison with my Para...

But, it’s fine- because I’ll tell you, I’m loving this knife! I haven’t been so pleased with a knife buy in some time. While it’s taken a bit to get used to a smaller EDC, I couldn’t be happier with it. It does everything well, has a high cool factor with the handle and blade design and is one of my best looking knives. Getting it new for about $80 didn’t hurt either- it's just an incredible knife for the price!

Nice pictures to go with the review! The blade shape actually steers me away, not because it doesn't look useable but because I don't trust my ability to effectively sharpen it.

I like mine a lot. Don't carry it too often, but it is exceptionally smooth, and I fixed the only thing I disliked about it. That is a Meerkat clip. I grabbed one for $90 bucks and consider that an absolute steal. Machined G10, S30V, Spyder hole, and awesome fit and finish is hard to beat for that price, plus it is an Anso design, and nothing else is like it.

Oh...nice upgrade!

Here's something I posted on the Spyderco sub-forum and figured I'd put it here too...just a few thoughts on a knife that seems like a sleeper- but I love it!

Nice review, been wanting one of these for a long time it's good to see a size comparison with a more common knife

Thanks guys. This is one of my better buys this year.

Texassteel, I'll put up another pic with some other blades too.

Add: here with a few others...Rat 1, full sized Ritter Grip, ZT0801 and CS Mini Recon.

My Zulu should come in tomorrow and with its 3" blade length and 3.5 ounce weight good for EDC in L.A. Can't beat the under $100 price.

Really like the Jens Anso designs and I have a couple of good ones already: Boker Minos and Albatros.

Just had to show off that 0801 didn't you? ... Lol jk! seriously though! Some great looking blades!

lol! Thanks- I had a thread in the general section where I ooo'ed and aaah'ed over the Rat 1 I got the same day as ZT...the 0801 is cool, but I guess I'm more into slicers than "hard use" blade...

I'm going to have to check those out because I'm loving this design!

The Jens Anso flipper by Fox Knives is also coming out one with titanium handles and the other with wood.

I have two of his customs, but the Spyderco Zulu gets the most pocket time, it's a great knife, wish I had bought two.

after seeing this thread , I couldn't resist buying one so I ordered it and should be getting it tomorrow..:)
