Hi folks,

I had my original Boa (440v) stolen :( . It was my favourite folder and regular EDC. WHen I went looking I discovered that they are no longer current... So I'm stuck either looking for a replacement NOS model... or getting something new that is the equal of it.

I loved the full belly and recurve, the weight and fit in the hand, the flipper and speedsafe opening, the safety, and the DLC coating and edge holding of the 440V steel...

Of course I'm in Canada so shipping across the border can be hit or miss, especially if the sender is not willing to take a couple small precautions to ensure the knife passes its customs inspection.

Help me find either my replacement Boa or a as good or better replacement.

Cheers,
James

Hey James,

I've had hundreds of knives shipped into Canada without a hitch. I use First Class Mail most of the time and get my goods within a week.

It always helps when the Sender gets your address right. The Declaration Form needs to be filled out properly, as well.

There's no Science to it.

Cheers from the Flatlands!

The bump is also discontinued, and I think was discontiued the same year (or near the same year), so it might be just as hard to find.

The 1670S30V is a decent replacement, but as you were saying all the things you liked about the Boa, there isn't anything that meets all of those check marks.

I wonder if there are still some 1595G10s, those were only discontinued a few months ago.

Kershawguy doesn't ship to Canada though. Not sure if he would break his policies.

k guy has baby boa's and it's in the class of a chive

speed bump is not hard to find; the discontinued spec bump is...and the recurve on the bump is quite severe; much more than the boa...that might (like most of the sharpening fanatics here) make you ill LOL...i myself love the cutting power, versatility and reach of the bumps and use mine for working often...

I've personally never had an issue getting them either, but I know some people have, and there has to be a reason why so many US dealers are unwilling to ship to Canada.

It makes no sense to me since assisted openers and speed safe in particular are expressly permitted in our legislation. What is prohibited is knifes with the pivot or detent so loose that it can be flipped open with inertia. (a wrist flick) or gravity rather than by pushing the stud or flipper. My guess is its either misinformed customs people, loose detents, or poorly written declarations. \

However all concerns are easily addressed by the inclusion of a single sheet of paper printed with the page out of the criminal code allowing assisted knives (not automatics) and making sure the pivot screw is snug. :) Just as a little extra precaution, but like I said I've never had a problem in the past.

Will try kershaw guy as he has all sorts of goodies. :)

I'm pretty sure he doesn't ship to Canada according to his website ..but you could ask him. He is usually quick to answer emails and is a great guy.
