There Are Many Mnandis, But This One is Mine

At 3:58 AM MT on Thanksgiving Morning (11/26/15) I received a very unexpected and a VERY pleasant PM from a kind and generous member we have here on BF. I will leave his name out as I don’t believe it his style to want recognition for going about doing good.

He requested my address and told me that he had selected me to win one of three very fine knives of my choosing. No strings, no shenanigans, no catches—just one human doing a very kind deed towards another human. He doesn’t know my age, height, weight, race, sexual orientation, or otherwise—truly exemplifying simply doing a kind deed without prejudice or ulterior motives. Not to wax too poetic, but I now see this knife as a symbol of the good the world can offer.

There are many Mnandi’s, but this one is mine. It is Bocote wood with a beautiful grain and a nice little “eye knot” on the back scale. The knife came to me in new/unused condition and as of the last several weeks it has occupied my pocket full-time. I wanted to share the beginnings of its life journey with you.

Many simple tasks have been accomplished with it. It is so small, light, and SHARP and it makes for a very useful EDC blade. I won’t pretend to believe that you are interested in seeing anything and everything it has done, but I will share a few of the cutting tasks it has performed without fault or complaint. Please enjoy the picture show. . . And remember, the world is still a kind and beautiful place.

A Mnandi to break down boxes, I love it! It's like using a Bentley to carry a load of dirt. :)

Really nice grain and a GREAT story. BF is a great community and has some awesome members. Thanks for sharing.

What a great heartwarming story. Makes me glad I came out of my solitary cave of collecting and became a full fledged participant instead of just lurking. I may just have to pay it forward!
And whoever gifted it to you didn't just send a cull. Has to be one prettiest grained bocote's that I have ever seen!
Thanks for sharing! 👍🏼

O*u*t*s*t*a*n*d*i*n*g!!!! Thanks for sharing the story and pics!! A great gesture on the part of its prior owner as well.:thumbup:

Thank you for sharing! You have some great looking grain on your new knife:thumbup:
There are some amazing members here, we have a wonderful place to come hang out and talk about the things that bore our significant others:)

Great Story. Stunning mnandi. Bocote is my favorite wood and this has a beautiful Bocote inlay. Just doesn't get any better than this.

Congrats... The generosity of many members here, in various sub-forums, always amazes me.

That's a beauty.

Thanks for the story.
I bet seeing the Mnandi being used makes both parties happy.
Nice knife, btw.

Love the knife! But the story is what is the most special! What a selfless person to simply give away this beauty!! Congratulations to both of you!!!!

Thanks for all of the comments my friends. I enjoy spending time on this forum, especially the CRK room, because of all the good people we have here.

That's some pretty primo Bocote!

I love the Mnandi, pretty awesome individual to give it away so freely.

Faith in humanity restored. :D

Thank you for sharing the story with us, and to the absolutely generous person who gave away some of the most beautiful knives in the planet, I applaud you! And to MMAR, congratulations and thank you for putting that Mnandi to good use...

That's a beauty. I've been on the fence for years about getting a mnandi. I imagine I will eventually pull the trigger.

Great story behind this one.

My usual EDC for 99% of time over the last several years has been a plain Jane Small Insingo. I plan on EDC'ing this Mnandi for awhile and put it through what the Insingo has been through. Nothing serious, just the same day-to-day tasks already shown, but it may find some uses making kindling and tinder with some of my Boy Scouts in my local Patrol as well as other camp-related tasks. It is a solid little knife and I am sure it can take whatever I dish out.

Thanks for sharing the lovely experience and to the giver of the mnandi kudos!
