I know its a regular old basic black 303, but a new one is on its way. This will be my first "new" Buck since Christmas 2008. I've bought a few used older ones off the internet over the past few years. I've even bought one of the kids and wife new Buck almost every year, usually a Bantam. But its been a while since I bought a new Buck.

The last Buck I received was a Buck 303 Timberlake for Christmas in 2008. I had every intention of carrying it but decided not to. Over the past few years I have bought some older ones but nothing new from Buck. no particular reason except my interest were somewhere else.

I rotate my edc knife usually after a few months. For almost a year I had carried a Case 07 mini trapper (one of my favorites by the way), about 2 months ago I put my old 703 in my pocket. I received that knife back in 1994 I believe . It was a Birthday present. I started thinking of nice a size it was and yet still useable for most the task I would use a knife for. So earlier in the week I decided just to pull out some of my Buck older contract knives. Looking at the 303 I thought it would be a great carry knife.

With Christmas being around the corner my wife was looking for stocking stuffers and I came up with the idea of a Buck traditional pocket knife. I was really torn between a 303 and a 309.

Now here is the real catcher. The store I bought it from I had a $27 credit, so I was able to get it for $6.42 shipped.:D

Kyhunt, sounds like a good deal all the way around--price, timing, the Buck knife you want--all in time for Christmas!

I like the 303, in fact, I have a '70s era one in my pocket right now. It was a hard-luck, beat-up knife when I got it, but the good folks at Buck fixed it up. Good snap, nice edge, clean and bright.

Hidden away I have a 309 circa '85 that I bought when I first joined the AF. A great knife as well.

There is nothing wrong with that choice at all. I prefer the black basic.

Nice stocking stuffer - the Buck 303, old or new, is one of my favorite's for EDC. OH

The truth is I've always been fond of the 300 series. I inherited a 301 back in the early 80's that was one of only 2 knives I had until around 94. The old 301 is semi-retired. It was only about 10 years ago that I started carrying anything besides a Buck.

Well here it is. Its just a plain Jane 303. Its been awhile as I said since I bought a new Buck. Think I'm going to like this little knife and looking to the possibility of now looking into adding some more 300 series.

For a long time the hollow grind on the 300 series turned me off to them. But in person it doesn't look as bad as I thought. While I do still prefer the looks of flat grind knives I think I'm going to like this one. Its in my pocket right now.

I am going to work on the edge a bit after lunch and after taking my son out to try out his new bb gun. While the edge is ok, I think it could be refined just a bit.

It seems kind of funny and ironic, after all these years with bone, stag and fancy handled knives, there is just something nice about putting this plain black handled buck in my pocket.

I carried my dads 303 today for Christmas duty. I need to get one for myself so I don't worry about loosing it.
