Whittling them with a bare-tanged Becker blade would not be my first choice though.
I picked up my first set of wood scales from Tommy the Who. They are Honduras Rosewood, and I am trying them on for size on the Magnum Camp knife.
They give me something to shoot for.

But I have some Bocote blanks to finish which started out on the thin side for Becker scales, but I will work with them. I cut corners off with a power saw, then roughed in with a 4.5" angle grinder fitted with a sanding disc. Finally I finished the fit-up with the old Dremel. Now it's all hand sanding & final finish. Even though they were a bit thin, they will suffice. I am pretty easy to please when I just start out a new type of project like these. Besides, wood scales grow on trees!
I can try again if it don't come out perfect.

Sometime in the future, I will try a blade project, .... I hope.
