There such a thing as a GOOD $60 or less Bali-Song?

Hey folks,

It just occurred to me that Bali-Songs are kinda intriguing little critters, and I think i'd like to try one, but i'm not really interested in taking some huge financial plunge, are there any "toe-dipper" Bali-Song models that are good enough to be worth owning?

You might want to poke around in the balisong forums for a bit if you are interested, more information there than is probably healthy. :)

At any rate, I believe the short answer is that jaguars are reasonably well made for the price (you can find them all over, check knifezilla.com, for example). Or the pacific style balisong at knifezilla also seems to be one of the better cheapies.

Enjoy, but watch out, it's a little addictive.

Try either a Jaguar or a Bear Mfg. They are decent for the price. If you like it, you can always get a Benchmade or Microtech at a later date.

I think you should go with a Jaguar. You will have a "decent" knife that you haven't spent much money on.., so if you end up not liking Balisongs.., you aren't out the price of a Benchmade.

If you do like them...[GOD] help you :)...once you get hooked you want 'em all! <~~ which does get a little pricey :(

Well, the problem is, ya' get what ya' pay for. As far as Balis go these days $60 will get you addicted and not much more.

~ Jaguars are good, but chances are the pivot pins will break on you (easily fixable though).

~ Bears seem to have a design flaw where the handles break (very NOT fixable).

~ The afore mentioned Pacific styled Bali will probably last you quite awhile. The only lame part on those is the latch, but that will last long enough, and you can still play with it without the latch.

In the end, the Benchmade for just over $100 (depending on model and where ya' buy) will last you many years, and it will hold it's value better if you decide to unload it (depending on damage). The others will just end up a pile of broken parts.
