Hey all. Just received my Rat-3 from Cumberland Knife works. Wow! I really love it. Fits my hand perfect and I've been trying it as a neck knife. Not bad, not bad! I like it because it is nearly identical in size to my EDC, a Ritter Grip. It has replaced my Necker, which I've always felt is just slightly too small. Can't wait to put my Rat through its paces!

Not my pic (Randall Adventure Training website), but here she is:

congrats. I just got this knife too and I am enjoying it. Just sharpened it (took some work, the edge grind was very ubtuse at the tip) and sanded down the thumb jimping 1/3 of the way to increase comfort when carving and whatnot) I like it even more now :D

I too just got a RAT-3. Found that it will need some work on the Sharpmaker! MrSuicide - What grit did you use to sand down the jimping?? Can the Micarta be sanded down where it rides high over the blade??

Nice knife but, all this work on a new knife is a turnoff for me. You didn't get it from the Knifecenter did you? The only & last three I ordered from them needed serious touchup work. I suspect they might be selling less than first rate knives. A good knife should be sharp & good to go in my book. If I have to do all this work on a knife they should offer a hefty discount on it.

the knife is shaving sharp out of the box, all the way to the tip, but yeah it is uneven.

actually im not sure what grit i used, probably around a 200-400.

ive never sanded micarta myself. other people have sanded down the micarta on the TAK so i dont see how it would be much different.

If you go to the ontariorat site usually Mr Randall or his partner will tell you how to customize the handles

Actually, my Rat-3 was great. Clean, even grinds. Handle slabs had good fit and finish. Blade hair-popping sharp out of the box. I love this knife!! Got it from Cumberland Knife Works. Fast shipping even to Canada. The buggers at Customs did open it though, but I guess they had a hard time flicking it open:D

Congrats on this great little knife. :)

I have the polished blade ram horn handle version, more PC looking, great little camp knife. The workmanship and finish is great, no complain here :D
