...reserved for you guys! :D ;) :p ;) :D

I've been perusing these forums for about a year now, and recently got the urge to try flipping a bali. I picked up a BM 43A today (although I would rather have the 31!), and promptly went to Clay's site. Started out with the first two beginner moves, and then tried the basic vertical opening. Got the hang of it, sort of, and went back to my real job :)

Sequence that followed:
- Went to web site and downloaded PDF file.
- Picked up bali, check safe handle, practice basic vertical while reading.
- Put bali down, go to next web site for more information.
- Picked up bali, practice basic vertical.
- Ouch!!!

That'll teach me to not check the safe handle before beginning!!!!

Luckily the nick wasn't too bad, more of a flesh wound. Due largely in part to the fact that I haven't gained the speed of some of the more seasoned flippers around here...:)

Just remember, the 15th level of hell is reserved especially for you flippers for turning people onto this! :D :p :D

Kind of like a narcotic. The more you flip, the more you want to flip. Welcome to the brotherhood. Wait until you complete your first double flip, toss and catch with out slicing off a chunk of yourself. It just gets better.

Good to have you with us. And yes, we're quite a collective of jerks if you really get down to it. :D No matter how long you're addicted to balisongs, just wait, it'll get worse. And congratulations on being one the few people who actually start where they should at Clay's site... the beginning. ;)

Hope to see more posts from you in the future... Have fun flippin'

I'm down with going to hell so long as I can have my knives with me. I flip constantly.

Much like many people who frequent this message board, I started at Clay's site as well. Although I did play with a butterfly years ago, when I was still in elementary school.

I visited the site and had a laugh. I was amazed at his skill and that there would be someone out there who could dedicate a site to knife play. Takes all kinds. We are those kind! So, welcome and enjoy playing with knives.

Welcome Starfish.., have fun.., it is addicting.., but also socially unacceptable which makes up for it ;)

"Hunters seek what they [WANT].., Seekers hunt what they [NEED]"

At one time I was thinking of having all my balis welded into sort of a cage, and using that as my casket when I die...:p

like navajo said, the more you flip the more you want to. And then you're hearing the clicks in your dreams and then you wake up bleeding.

I bet I do some really cool stuff while I'm sleeping.

After a while, you'll even sit twirling with your finger, but without your bali. When people start asking: 'Man, what the HELL are you doing?!' you know you've become addicted. ;)

Welcome to the bloody brotherhood.

Are you equating us to drug dealers? I hope not. I prefer to think of us as people that found nivarna and just spreading the word. You know, kinda like those Hare Krishna people (OK, maybe that was a bad example)..... ;)

Enjoy your addiction, it's a bit painful, but safe (except on the wallet).

And will someone please stop ixpfah from stealing my line..... :D

Heh, thanks for the welcome :) I have the feeling that years from now, when there's nothing left of my fingers but bruised stumps, I'll get the same sort of welcome....

Me: Hi, my name is Matthew, and I'm a bali-holic
Group: Hi Matthew! (waving their own stumpy hands)

:D :p :D

And Tony, remember that - (I hate to use this quote) - religion is the opiate of the masses, so either way you compare it....:D :p :D

Thanks again!

Matthew

Welcome Starfish,
I like to flip my Bali at work also. My co-workers give me hell when they here the clickety clack. The floor is concrete and my biggest concern is dropping the Bali and damaging it. So I'm thinking of getting a small rug I can roll up and take with me. Sort of a prayer rug ;).

Welcome Starfish! Wow, another spot in hell reserved for me......... and I said I wasn't a collector :D

Don't fear the bloody stumps bud. You'll only lose a few fingers before you get the hang of things......... it's the holes in your palms from "aerial techniques gone bad" that you have to worry about.

............. but you don't have to worry about that right now because, you're not that adventurous yet............... right??

If it isn't the ol' DEVIL himself!!!

I'm gonna have to side with Dawkind

Tempting fish to try his hand;) at aerials.

Well it was gonna happen eventually if you can't beat him join him.

By the way, did anyone tell you to lay up a LARGE supply of band aids and lots of Neosporin??

Yeah, bandaids good call especially with all of those wicked aerials you'll being doing.

You may find that you will have to fill in a few spots with silly putty if you get too excited.

One thing that I have realized is that balis seem to have become more and more intertwined with the internet. Our gurus (clay, chuck, tony) brainwash us through the net, and I got started on balis from looking at BM's site and clay's page. Now it seems that when I am not flipping or buying, my bali related activities center around this site, Clay's site and Chuck's site. Makes me feel like I'm in on some underground.

Beware lest the rotating bali suck you in! Ye might wet thine pants with glee!
