Hi Guys....

I just got back from the local hospital where I picked up a bunch of scrap thermal plastic they use in their Occupational Therapy department...

This stuff,, although not, exactly what I need,, has some interesting properties...

Several of the samples I tried out,, took very little heat to make them flexible,,in the range of 150 F. When I stuck it together,, it was nearly impossible to tear apart. Others let you mold them with your fingers into any shape you want, then when cool remain in that state...

The most interesting thing they had there was a flesh tone plastic.

I have no real use for this stuff as of yet,, but some of you other guys might..Just thought I'd let you know about it...

Most places will let you have it for free,, and they had tons of scrap. Couldn't carry it all in one trip for sure...

Check your local hospitals,, maybe youguys can come up with something cool to use it on...

Yeah, back in '98 when I tried to grind the index finger off my right hand, that's what they used to keep my hand and wrist stable. They heat it up in hot water. The low heat (150 degrees) will make this not suitable for a sheath. I would think it gets close to that in the trunk of a car.

I was think about using it,,not so much for the sheath,,but as an insert!

The plastics you got may be useful in making templates out of, especially if you want to make patterns from a knife you've already made. Just mold it into sheets. Then you can get it soft and cut the shape with an x-acto knife or something and let it cool off and harden again. As long as they keep their shape that would be a lot easier than trying to make templates out of aluminum or something.Just a thought.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

Hey Matt...

Not a bad idea..

Actually it would almost be soft enough to cut with a small knife..
Don't know if I'd want to heat it then cut,, because of it expanding and contracting!

Go to your local hospital and scam some...
